I have been thinking about this and if a new overlay has to be done. I can't help but feel that remaking the TOT into the Avenger's tower would make so much more sense than going with the Guardians of the Galaxy. You could have a villain cutting the cables and Iron Man pushing you backup or something like that.
I just think it's a bad idea in general... Even if it is the start to create "Marvel Land", it'll be out of place until the rest of it "catches up". Nevermind the fact that it makes no sense (unless there is some crazy elevator scene in the new GotG movie, then it'll make *some* sense, but still a bad idea)... On top of that, ToT is still pretty popular and the merchandise sells pretty well! Not Mansion levels, but still, probably one of the more successful merch rides in DCA... Why would you give that up?! Just to shoehorn Marvel stuff in the park?! Why don't they take the time to develop it and do it right? It'll pay off tenfold in the long run...
If you truly love the Tower of Terror, you will please sign the following petition. The Walt Disney Company: Save the TOWER OF TERROR! We can't let this classic disappear. I only wish there had been a petition to stop Star Wars land..............
Not only are you not missing anything and not only is there no closing date, the company (as far as I can discern) hasn't even acknowledged these seemingly far-fetched rumors, much less confirmed them.
THIS!!! Why is this rumor gaining so much momentum when, as far as I know, Disney hasn't even given a hint of it's validation?
Last week I was talking to a contractor friend of mine that Disney has hired for Star Wars land. He showed me the overall land plans for SWL but also mentioned that a small group of his team will be working on tower until they are fully needed over at SWL. He says the Tower retheming is a go.
Can anyone explain the connection between 'Guardians of the Galaxy' -- a superhero movie set in the future, and 'Tower of Terrot' set in 1930's Hollywood.
Given that the only work being done on SWL has been demo and area preparation, I don't see anything concerning the new Marvel Land being to the point of needing any of those skills. I don't believe they have even gotten out of early concept on the Marvel project, so they couldn't be starting demo or area preparation until they at least have designs locked down.
Well he did remote into his office computer from his phone and showed me the plans for where everything will be played out. It is very much like miceage showed just more detailed. He pointed out a couple of full size a-wings and the x-wing and falcon positions. The large building wad marked as alcatraz. He said the permits are getting finished in June and construction is slated for the next four years. The expansion pad next to toon town was marked as the Frozen show building.
I think the theory (and yes, it's just theory/rumor at this point) is that TOT would no longer be "in" Hollywood but in a new Marvel land... or perhaps a Marvel mini-land within Hollywood. And it would be re-themed to be the lair of "The Collector." Presumably they'd be adding other Marvel stuff in the immediate area to create such a Marvel land or mini-land. I'm with those who say the theme is fine as it is, but that's the theory/rumor.
The Twilight Zone theme isn't used at the Disney Sea version and it works pretty well there. It's the same exact building except better themed. What if the new theme was on par with the Disney Sea version? The boiler room could be a warehouse for the Collector's items. We might even see an AA Howard the Duck in one corner of the room.
TDS has certainly proven that Twilight Zone isn't necessary for the ride to be a success. I don't think there was much conjecture about that, given the ride's popularity with guests who have never seen the show. But what the TDS version does so magnificently, similar to WDW, is that it fits the surrounding area perfectly. Everything about it makes sense and it just sort of works. DCA's Tower is sort of in exile from the rest of Hollywoodland, and the land itself doesn't have a great theme; but I still think that the existing storyline fits better than having Guardians grafted on top of it Heck, even if TOT gets annexed by some future Marvel land to the south of the existing ride, it still won't be integrated into the land. Everything about the structure faces the north/northwest; adding a land to the south won't make it make any more sense than it does now; it will become even more of a no-man's land than it currently is. TOT is arguably the best themed attraction in that section of the park; it would be a shame to lose that for the flavor of the month. I have no problem with changing the theme to something that fits the surroundings better, but I struggle to see how Guardians of the Galaxy fits that bill
If the MA rumors come to be (specifically, the rumors about an indoor coaster on the north side), that land will also have Frozen! Live at the Hyperion right in the middle of it. That is going to be tough to pull off.
