Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!!!! I wore shorts yesterday that I could not wear last summer and Rod had to add a hole to his belt!!! Well, it wasn't a cheat in what we ate so much as how much I guess. We had our hot dog and some chicken and potato chips and that was supposed to be it. Those roastin' ears are huge. A lot of starch and we really do not eat grain much. Nevertheless I was down another pound at the Dr and that thing on my face was not cancer. They just applied some liquid nitro to freeze it off!!!! That salad looks so awesome. I am off to make something similar for our lunch. We are rushing like crazy to get everything done and be on the road by 7AM. Still wondering where all these jars are gonna fit.
Celebrating with you on getting back into those shorts, Rod's slimmer waistline, and you NOT having cancer on your face! Yeah!!
Oh no... My husband hates the heat and he also wants to lose some weight so he was on board with the salad. At least for a few days until it cools down. Lol!
My husband made a tomato, mozzarella, balsamic salad with onions and avocados and it was awesome in this heat! I have also been getting used to working out, but MW for me... baby steps are better than no steps but couldn't go today as this was when the vet neurologist could see our kitty. :-( I did actually miss it! Soooo... going to the zoo tomorrow morning at opening to get in some steps before it gets too hot for me.
The zoo is an awesome place to get those steps in!! Let me know what you think of the new elephant exhibit...I hear it's pretty darn cool. They were still building it when I was there for ZooLights this winter.
What's the latest?? I stepped on the scale and weighed in at 174 today. Besides that I'm wearing a shirt that I haven't been able to wear in about a year. Everyone else still pressing forward and making progress?
Still chugging along here. I ran 10 miles on Sunday, which is my personal best. Took an hour and forty-five minutes, I'd like to get that down to an hour and a half before my half-marathon in July so I can finish close to a 2 hr time.
Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well. That is great. We are in Utica, Illinois right now. It started to rain so we upgraded from our tent site to a "rustic" (it has Wifi and cable TV LOL) cabin. So nice though. We will be in Ludington tomorrow hugging the grandkids. For traveling we are doing pretty well. In addition to the soups; I made a bag of salad and mixed up tuna so we have made our way across the country on soup and salad. Last night we got in really late and Rod suggested cold soup for dinner. I compromised with dark chocolate, potato chips and wine. We were so tired!!! When we got in this evening we had yogurt and fruit and nuts and seeds. We are about to have a snack before retiring and are deciding between apple and peanut butter or avocado and ranch.
Great job everybody! I am holding steady at 139, but I have been noticing differences in how my clothes are fitting which is just as wonderful. I haven't been so great at working out this week because my commute home has been doubled due to the Rose Festival fleet coming into town for the big parade this weekend. I am looking forward to my first real cheat meal on Saturday with my parents before we go see the new Alice movie. (I haven't eaten out at all OR had a glass of wine in about a month!!)
10 miles! WOW! I run about 2.5 in the half hour I'm on the treadmill and I cannot imagine continuing for 10 miles. Great job! Have a great time! Good job staying on track while on the road! Well done and enjoy your cheat meal! You deserve it!
Hey everybody!! Hope you are all keeping up the healthier life styles. We have really done well; the one exception being us overindulging on the wine when we finish a day with the grandkids. We do not spend whole days tending 3-10 year olds anymore. At the end of the day; we need a little extra relaxation. But it has been a blast. Jason loves to hike so we have climbed the same mountain 4 times.
Hey all. Loving this topic as it continues to grow! And I'm happy to report that, as of a few weeks ago, I've been very much back on track. Exercising a lot (the heat helps...I actually like it and it motivates me to push more, weird as that may seem...I just hate the cold basically lol), and keeping the eating under control as well. Haven't lost a lot yet, but I feel confident that I'm back on track and should be able to return to my original goal weight by mid-September. I'm going to have to figure out some new strategies for *maintenance*, that much is certain. I've learned that I'm pretty good at laser-focusing the weight off, but it comes back just as quickly if I'm not careful. I'm already thinking about that so it doesn't defeat me when I get there in September like it did last time (the insidious part is that I didn't gain the weight back immediately, but just a little here and a little there until I was no longer eating well at all). At least the grandkids keep you active during the day to allow for a glass or two of wine to wind down after all of the activities. Sounds like you guys had a great time on your vacation. Hope to hear more about it soon!
Well, we totally blew it on Father's Day. My son's in-laws took us out to dinner and we had too much food followed by giant pieces of chocolate cake. (2 pieces fed 10 people.) I hate to say that I enjoyed it. We did take a walk around the campground in the evening. I do not have access to a scale so will not know until we get home if we have gained, lost or stayed the same. I feel like overall we have done well. Hiking near Lake Hamlin with Chloe, Jason and Blake. (My hips are not quite that huge. My pockets are stuffed with paper towels.)
I blew it on Father's Day as well. I took my dad to our favorite gastropub and had a few beers, a ham sandwich, and a pretzel plate (we split that). I did skip dinner though because I was still full from lunch. Didn't touch the scale this morning and probably won't until before I leave for camping on Friday morning. Cheating will be had this weekend as well in the form of wine (and Natural Cheetos Puffs the greatest hangover remedy on the face of the planet). We do tend to eat pretty healthily (except for my Cheetos) while camping, and we're generally pretty active in our attempt to keep up with the kids.
Glad to hear everyone is still doing really well! I'm staying consistent with the gym 4 to 5 days a week. That consists of about 30 minutes of cardio on the treadmill or elliptical, and then about another 30 to 40 minutes of weight training. Although the scale still has me hovering right around 174 to 176, I am feeling great and my fat clothes are now too big, and the clothes I still have from the last time I got in shape and lost weight are fitting again! I even had my wife comment on how she noticed my arms getting bigger and more defined as I was wearing a tank top this weekend while I was washing my car in the driveway. I feel like I'm coming to a happy medium in regards to the way I eat. I figured out that completely cutting out all carbs wasn't a good thing for me. So the way I'm eating now is very realistic as far as a sustainable way of eating and living. (as opposed to a "diet" that is done temporarily) It's cautious about potions, as we well as conscious about what I put in my body. I know what foods are good for me to enjoy with less restraint, and what foods I should avoid as much as possible, but have very small portions when I do enjoy them. I'm feeling a lot more comfortable with it now, and not so much anymore like I'm on a diet. So that's really good. I appreciate hearing all of your stories. They motivate me to keep going and it's nice to feel like we're on this journey together!
>>>I feel like overall we have done well.<<< Until today when we took the kids out for brunch and I had the eggs benedict. Nothing for us tonight but vegetable soup!!
We did have our plain veggie soup for dinner and took a walk. Today we did well except for toasting marshmallows with the grandkids. But that is the last of the grandchildren indulgences as we leave for home in the morning.
Sounds like you guys had a wonderful trip, and you were pretty darn diligent with your food choices. Kudos to you for sticking to your veggie soup when I'm sure other options were available!!
