Star Tours has been part of Disneyland for almost half it's existence. It would be hard to think of Disneyland without it. George Lucas once said after seeing Star Wars on the big screen, "I've made a Disney movie!" That wasn't a good remark since Disney live action movies were for kids only and were not very good. He changed his tune when it made boat loads of money. Of course this from a man that sold his "children" (SW movies) to "white slavers" (Disney).
Don't believe everything you read, Jim. From everything I've heard, Toontown will likely be going away, and there will be a Fantasyland expansion in it's place.
I do not think that anything will happen to toontown or fantasyland for many years. After all the money that they are spending on Star Wars land the next big project will probably either in the DCA or Tomorrowland.
Oh it'll be a few years down the road, but they have to spend that 1.5 billion as part of the agreement with Anaheim so they wouldn't start charging tax on theme park tickets, so they have to invest that amount within a 5 year time span, I think.
Also, from what I read, I believe they are building the stage show building for one of the Fantasyland expansion rides (Frozen?) during this Star Wars construction since they are right in that area. I bet it won't be too long after Star Wars we see the Fantasyland expansion begin.
Yes, but Star Tours is one attraction in its appropriate location-- Tomorrow Land. I mean, what would the crowd think if we created A Small World Land? I love the ride, a fave, but should it become a separate land? Ok. YES! I think it should!

I like how it looks like a particular place - all of a piece, if you will - with both the "natural" (craggy rock) and architectural elements (especially the rounded roofs) looking like they belong together. I was a little worried, having seen only a couple of ride entrance concept pieces and then the land plans with "ride here, store here, restaurant here" that they might be tempted to try to shove too much of the SW universe into it. A little Tattooine here, a little Coruscant there. I much prefer this approach.
I agree that it appears to be a cohesive location, which is a big plus. I'm still skeptical that there will be enough "there" there to justify taking so much space for just 2 rides in land-strapped Anaheim, but it does seem like what's there will be very well executed I'm a little worried about how much of this will be visible from the river traffic, since that quiet back corner really made the whole trip worthwhile, but I'm going to be optimistic and hope that this rendering just takes some artistic liberties with what can be seen from the south
Remember they are trying to show the city and not the view from the river boat. The stuff near the boat is going to be distorted and made smaller while the stuff in the back is going to look huge. The picture has a weird tilt so you can see into the land without things being blocked. I'm relatively sure you will not see huge buildings from the riverboat. There will be large trees on a berm.
I don't doubt that there will be some sort of berm and separation, but I also expect that you'll be able to see into the land pretty easily from the top deck of the Twain, at least for the first couple years, and the Twain's smokestacks and Columbia's masts will be visible. The dense foliage between the river and Big Thunder Trail (near the former Cascade Peak site) did a good job of blocking most of the view, but the boats are simply too tall to be completely obscured

It's tough to say whether it's the Gullywhumper or the Bertha Mae, but it sure does appear to be a keel boat Then again, there's also an X-wing in the sky above it, so I wouldn't put too much faith in its authenticity
If it's in the picture, it will be there. I expect x-wing fighter tethered ballooon rides over the Rivers of America.
