    2. The kid who played Pete in the original was so universally panned as a horrible actor that his parents pulled him from the business. He worked in medical records at a hospital in Albuquerque for years. I hope they leave the poor kid alone. (Also, his performance in the movie could probably be attributed to Kevin "Moochie" Corcoran either being the producer or director or something).

3.What's next Disney, the updated, darker remake of Midnight Madness, Condorman, or Toby Tyler.

Gosh, he really was terrible, wasn't he? There are several times in the move that make it look like he's mentally challenged, but I suspect it's mostly just bad acting. I'm sure it can't be easy to play around with a character that's not physically present on set, but still

I have no idea if it's true or not, but I heard a rumor that he spent that first summer at DL riding Elliot in MSEP. It seems like a bit of a stretch, but it's not like he was busy with another acting gig elsewhere

Toby will be played by Will Smith's son.

    Pete's Dragon (2016) - IMDb

Well...now that there is more trailer....any new or different thoughts? With this crowd, I kinda doubt it.

Never cared much for the original, so this isn't crushing my inner child or anything. But I have no desire to see "How to Train Pete's Dragon".

I'm still not looking forward to this one, but it doesn't look as bad as I had previously thought. The CGI isn't especially convincing though, which is a shame for a film that revolves around an imaginary character

I'm also disappointed that Pete has become a fully feral child, and they've scrapped the Gogans who were great campy fun. If the kid has been in the woods for 6 years, how does he have such a good grasp of the English language? Seems like he wouldn't be old enough to remember much prior to that

I am a fan of the original, so I do feel a bit of my little kid slipping away. :( (Actually, not so little. Was a DL cast member when it came out.)

I'm actually disturbed by the visuals. I know they're trying to keep Elliot adorable by making him fat and fuzzy and maximizing stretch-n-squash to the breaking point. But geez... this is live action. Not animation like HTTYD. And not live action with a cartoony Elliot like the first PD. For that reason alone... the realistic CGI flying lizard is dancing dangerously close to the creep factor a la Game of Thrones.

Personally, I find this Elliot too scary. There's nothing charming about the feral boy out in the dark forest with a fire-breathing dragon at his beck and call. Cartoony Elliot had his share of neuroses and phobias... and it was adorable. But this dragon is too realistic. What the heck does it have to be afraid of? Seriously.

I think Disney missed a marvelous opportunity here. This should have been a remake of Ben with a dragon instead of a rat. Feral boy could have put the torch to everyone in town who allowed him to scrape by out in the woods for six years by himself. The box probably would have been a lot better than this turkey slated for the end of summer low expectations month of August release.

Oh don't get me started! This is the stuff that makes me crazy!!

And speaking of stuff that makes me crazy like running away from a T Rex in high heels yes I'm looking at you Bryce Dallas Howard... is this woman forever stuck in CGI Fantasy purgatory for the rest of her career? Son of Jurassic World is coming up. So kinda sorta looks that way. :(

OK. I'm just gonna say it:

    CREEPY! CREEPY! CREEPY!

The Dragon creeps me out! And the green fur definitely does not help!

Toothless is cute. Meatlug is cute. Many of the HTTYD dragons are cute!

    Elliot is not! :(

The Dog in archetypal Young Boy and His Dog stories -- of which this is one -- should be CUTE!

What the heck was Disney thinking!

Helen Reddy >>>>> Heavily Autotuned Kid

But I don't see what the problem is with the dragon ... he's every bit as attractive as the BFG, and look how popular he is! (/s)

OK, I'm just gonna come out and say it: I. Was. Wrong.

The film comes out one week from Friday, and already has 81% on RT.

Granted, it's only 16 reviews. The percentage could decrease as more reviews are released. But geez... 81% is better than what I was anticipating.

Given the trailers, I predicted this was going to be another BFG flop but with lousy reviews to match. It might still bomb at the box, though that doesn't seem as likely, given the subject matter.

Dragons are in. Giants... not so much. :p

Although I'm still disappointed that the new film isn't a musical, I'm really glad that they didn't just redo one of the iconic songs for it. This song doesn't seem particularly memorable (maybe it will with repeated listenings), but I really like the celtic/bluegrass vibe

I was thinking "17th place Eurovision song" - before I shut it off.
