That sounds very interesting. Disneyland Rumor Update - Marvel Land and Tower RethemeMiceChat Apparently TWDC is going to invest a lot of money in Anaheim over the next couple of years. Besides SWLand there are rumours that an Frozen addition will come to Fantasyland. Additionally a new hotel, which we already know, and new parking structures are coming. And it looks like the "One Disney Parks" is gone.
I'm shocked to see active construction (or demolition at least) for the parking structure. After hearing about it for so many years, I figured there would be more news leading up to its actual eventual construction. I'm also surprised that they're planning to move all of the Harbor bus drop-offs to that site, since it's not exactly close to the parks. On a map, it looks like it's at least as far from the park entrances as ESPN Zone in DTD, so hopefully they will have some means of moving people other than simply walking I think it's odd that apparently One Disney is dead, but they're bringing a bunch of WDW execs to DLR for them to learn the west coast approach. That sounds suspiciously like the whole One Disney concept. I hope that this means good things for WDW's future, since DLR has been doing okay for a while but the WDW operations have been struggling for some time
I feel like there are definitely going to need a bigger parking structure once Star Wars Land opens because it is going to bring so many people to the park that a lot more parking is needed. Though, it is weird they would take down Mickey and Friends and not build another bigger one somewhere close. As for Frozen, I actually think that it would make a very good in Fantasyland. What I would want to see would be a shortening of Autopia (maybe because I am not a fan of Autopia!) to put a Frozen attraction across the way from Matterhorn. I think that it would fit the theme of the area very well, and there is some space to work there.
At DLP they use moving walkways from the parking lot to the parks, if I'm not mistaken. However, ESPNZone isn't really that far away from the park entrance to need something like moving walkways. Everybody should be able to walk that small distance.
Mickey & Friends will remain. This new parking structure will be in addition to it, expanding the resort's parking capacity. M&F is one of the biggest parking structures in the world; it's not going anywhere any time soon I agree that the distance on its own isn't unmanageable, but for the prices that Disney charges it seems reasonable to expect they'd provide some sort of connection. ESPN Zone seems close to the parks, in part because of how thoughtfully the DTD sequence was designed. Although it's about a half mile walk, you never really notice because the scenery is constantly changing and the path meanders so you can't get a clear view of the distance. Given how narrow the Carousel Inn lot is, I doubt they can do much in that area ESPN Zone is also beyond the Monorail station, presumably indicating that it is far enough to justify some transportation. Coming from M&F, I find it's often faster to walk (because DLR can't run the trams efficiently to save their lives) but it's not very fun at the end of a long day in the parks
Honestly, I don't get this. People spending a whole day walking through themeparks, but the last fifteen minutes walking to the parking lot turn out to be such a big problem? People who can't walk have the these electric vehicles and the rest should be fine. While I still think there will be something like a moving walkway, it's really not such a priority in my opinion.
Disney could provide a fleet of electric trams - like ones in some major airports that practically run people over. Lol!
