I hadn't been on LP for a few weeks. I found myself getting angry reading political threads at various places so decided to stay away from bulletin boards for awhile. My mind was reset and refreshed and now I can indulge again.
Welcome back! I really wonder if I'm gonna make it to the end of this election and beyond. I'm the biggest news junkie around and it's just getting to be too much. Ironically, my frustration is more with my fellow citizens and their whininess than it is the institutions. I don't have much of a problem with politics or our systems or our leaders. But the American ability to have some false mythic belief in what our country is and what they think our government should be (even though it's never been that), and then responding nonstop as if everything is terrible because it isn't like that, is exhausting. This is your country, people. This is how it's always been (and it's usually been much worse). Doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement, there always is. Doesn't mean there's not real issues and real corruption to fix. But for the love of all that is holy, stop acting like the United States was a paragon of political virtue and smooth governing before now. Stop telling me about how exceptional we are, how much you love your country, whining about how some football player WON'T EVEN STAND FOR THE ANTHEM! and then in the same breath turn around and moan about how ever so awful your government is.
