Well, no, unless he wanted to be an illegal immigrant there! He'd be stateless if he renounced. I'm sure he could get Obama to agree to grant him temporary immigration parole to remain in the US while he worked out investment citizenship somewhere else, such as Malta. Then he could apply for a green card to stay here legally.
"Well, there is that rule in the party's by-laws. But that has little to do with the laws of the 50 states, which are all different and are what govern who actually appears on the ballot. " That's why I mentioned that. There actually is one more slightly more plausible mechanism - only slightly though. That is the "faithless elector" scenario. Remember, we technically don't vote for President, but rather for electors who in turn vote for President. And in this scenario, the GOP would convince a sufficient number of electors in states won by the Republican to vote for someone other than Trump. Several problems with this. Chiefly: 1) it presupposes that Clinton doesn't get 270 electoral votes to begin with, which she probably will; 2) some states mandate that their electors vote for the popular vote winner, so their hands would be tied - thus, Trump would actually have to win 270 or more EVs from states that don't mandate this, and those electors could then be "faithless" and vote for someone else. And then see the Trumpistas show up at the White House with pitchforks. And AR15s. Another reason it isn't very plausible they'd actually try it.
The producer of The Apprentice will sue anyone who leaks Trump footage to the media. Gee, too bad the Clinton campaign doesn't have oodles of money ... oh wait ... Source: Trump-Backer Burnett Has Warned Staff On Leaks
Meanwhile, look for former NBC Today Show host Billy Bush to be appearing this summer in his new job as pitchman for Mop-No-MoreĀ® liquid floor wax in Exhibit Hall 2 at the Linn County Fair in Iowa.
As disgusting as Trump's comments were, the creepiest moment was Billy Bush's goading and hopping off the bus and asking the actress, "How about a hug for The Donald?" Bleeeeccch!
I had completely forgotten that Billy Bush is a member of THAT Bush family. I never watch Access Hollywood, but I vaguely remembered reading about him 10 years ago when Bush was in office. So when it was pointed out by some pundit I kinda did an "oh, yeahhhhh..." Somewhere you know Jeb is somehow simultaneously cringing and smiling.
I had no idea he was a Bush family relative until this happened. The irony that it was a Bush that finished off Trump after all was pointed out many times this weekend.
Many folk who spent long hours in locker rooms are quite offended by this. And.....he was NOT in a locker room!!!!
Trump all along has been the "middle-finger" candidate. In other words, there is a significant segment of the population that has an extraordinary amount of disdain for people that are different than themselves. Brown neighbors, Spanish-speaking fast food workers, Muslims, disabled parking spot takers, professional women, etc. For the last couple of decades, they have been getting angrier and angrier with no outlet due to "political correctness" (aka decency) becoming the norm. And then along comes Trump who says a lot of what they want to say and, more importantly, speaks and acts how they want to speak and act. A lot of these people don't always care what he actually says....just that he says f*** you to all the people they have come to hate. That is why he continues to get support despite the atrocious things he says and does. A vote for him is a proxy middle finger to the non-white, non-asshole people of the world. And when this is all over, and Trump crawls back to his tacky, gilded penthouse, we get to go to sleep each night knowing that a good third of our population is a bunch of total assholes - and that another candidate more capable of Trump could come along and woo them.
It will still be only a third of the population, so assholes may not win for many reason other then just being asses.
I think EighthDwarf nailed it. I also think this is the reason the Trump tape has hurt him more than the previous statements. As long as he was just trashing (overtly or otherwise) and giving the middle finger to Hispanics or African-Americans or Muslims, other Republicans and Trump's apologists could say he wasn't really doing that and not even care if nobody bought that, because those were people whose votes they weren't counting on anyway. But women? They know he can't win if he ticks off enough women. More to the point, Republicans know NONE of them can win if he ticks off enough women. The panic was not so much for his electoral prospects as their own. Now, of course, this is far far far far far far far from the first time Trump has demonstrated misogyny. But combine an actual audio tape with nasty language with boasting about actual sexual assault, and you have The Tape. It is kind of amusing, though, to see all these Republicans shocked! shocked! (a la Claude Rains) to discover misogyny going on within their club.
It is amusing. It serves them right for exploiting the basest of feelings for political gain. They have put a bucking bronco in a horse race.
All I know is that when Glenn Beck is considering a vote for Hillary Clinton it's time to make peace with God
Maybe so, but, we can also hope that this cluster will make it so no one else is listening to them and they are just talking to walls. The credibility of the right has been discredited hugely this trip. It will be hard to take anything that they say seriously. I have never in my lifetime of voting every wanted to see the destruction of a political party, but, the Grand Old Party has run it's course and must be replaced unless by some miracle they can come back back to concern about the country and not their own self centered interests.
