Wow. He really can't help himself can he? This is cringeworthy to say the least. But as usual, sadly unsurprising. Roundly booed in a room full of priests? Check.

Hillary laid a few eggs too. Nothing like Cheeto Jesus had of course, but reading jokes someone wrote for her is another thing she really sucks at - and I think some of them were inappropriate as well. She only looked good by comparison, and would be getting barbecued in the press if it weren't for the silly man she was running against. 2016 in a nutshell.

Also, something something Maria Bartiromo something.

Forgive me, Father, for the triple post, but had to share.

Yeah, Hillary's few flops were basically badly written (or delivered) jokes, that were still intended to be jokes, in the spirit of the evening. Trump started off okay (not unlike the debates) but then couldn't help himself and just started attacking with lines that weren't jokes at all. That's not in the spirit of the evening.

It's all about understanding your audience. In this setting, it's always best if your jokes are at your own expense. That doesn't seem possible for Donald, but you're still okay if you zing your opponent using humor. But if you just attack your opponent without humor in this setting... you don't know your audience. This isn't one of your rallies. They're not going to cheer you for being a DB.

Donald knew his audience early on in this whole process. He knew there were angry older white people who the economy wasn't working for who wanted to give a big middle finger to the whole system, and he tapped into them. But after basking in their adulation for months, he STILL hasn't made the fabled pivot to a new audience - the general electorate. Despite being begged to do so by political professionals who know about these things (and once in a while making fitful indications that he listened). He still seems to think these crowds that lionize him are a majority of the populace.

He's about to find out otherwise.

I'm pretty sure that this moment will live on. Anytime anyone searches for the definition of "awkward" this footage will play. Wow.
And at the start of it, his jokes were pretty funny, having a little laugh at his own expense. And the joke about Melania's speech was a really good one. And then the wheels came off. Wouldn't you think he might have enough sense to self edit on the spot? Then again, maybe he DID, and there was even worse stuff written for him. : /

Exactly! Everyplace is a Trump rally and everyone adores him. REALITY CHECK!!
Note: Reality TV is not reality either.

It was pretty much what I expected (or that he wouldn't show up at all). Glad he did not let me/us down.

According to a reporter I follow on Twitter, he was furiously revising his script before he went on. I'm going to guess it wasn't to tone it down.

Ironical, ain't it? His best joke - about plagiarism - turns out to have been plagiarized.

    Ironical and stuff.

LOL, what a buffoon Trump is. I think the weak-kneed politicians who supported him -- and the ones who sorta supported him -- will wear this shame the rest of their careers. He is truly a conman, always has been.
