That crash looks suspiciously similar to the on that the Hudson Hornet encountered in a flashback in the first film. I suppose this means that we're going to watch Lightning McQueen's transition to a post-competitive life. It could be interesting, but after Cars 2 my expectations are so impossibly low that I just really don't care The visuals for the trailer certainly have more of a "dark and gritty" approach than we've seen in the past. I wonder if that's a hint about the overall tone of the film
That was a pretty dark trailer. I'm hoping it's better than Cars 2 because that was an awful mess. Disney really needs to lay off the sequels for a while.
Cars 2 was indeed a mess, but all other Pixar sequels were quite good, especially the Toy Story movies. Cars 3 gets made because of the huge merchandise sales. Maybe we are lucky and it will turn out to be a nice movie.
Finding Dory was great. Monsters U was pretty good. Cars 2 was a mess though. Using Mater as the lead is always a bad idea.
My 2 cents: Pixar has never made a particularly good sequel that didn't have the words "Toy" and "Story" in its title.
My 2 cents: I'd agree with this statement if you remove the word "particularly." Monsters Inc was tedious. Finding Dory was awful. Neither of those movies had a story that justified its telling. "Inside Out" is the only reason I still have faith in this company's ability to make art.
I'd describe Monsters University as "perfunctory" - well-made product, nothing less, and certainly nothing more. It earned the "particularly."
There was never any doubt in most people’s minds that there would be a “Cars 3.” The epic original “Cars” movie and even the somewhat more convoluted “Cars 2” together made $1 billion in box office and $10 billion in sales of all those Lightning McQueen race cars, throw pillows and beer cozies. It would make no sense at all to miss out on the money-making machine that “Cars 3” will almost certainly be once it comes out next summer. But making movies, especially sequels, can be tricky, as Pixar found out with “Cars 2.” You want to recapture the magic that made the original such a success without simply repeating the same story. Although there aren't a lot of details in that story, it sure sounds like "movie by committee". It really can't be any worse than the nonsensical mishmash of Cars 2, but my limited hopes for this are starting to fade EDIT: I should add that I find Cars 2 to be one of the most frustrating films of all time. Although the original Cars was hardly a cinematic masterpiece, it was well done with likeable and memorable characters, a believable universe, and a heartfelt storyline. And then for the sequel, they threw all that out the window and brought in all sorts of wacky concepts that barely make any sense, and have no relation to the world we know from the first movie. It was clearly designed to appeal to a wider audience (not just Americans) and sell more toys, but it's just a hot mess
I thought 'Finding Dory' was cute - but not spectacular. Just saw 'The Secret Life of Pets' on PPV last night. Meh.

Cars 3 has a plot? That's good news! But seriously ... The plot and characters described in that article were also "spoiled" by the trailers that have already been released. I don't understand what they're fussing about. And anyway, this movie is a toy commercial! Besides, this is standard practice for Disney, going right back to Snow White. They'd release spoilers - including record albums and full storybooks, as much as YEARS before the movies hit the big screen. Example: "Sleeping Beauty", 1959. Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland, 1955. There are even characters from "Peter Pan" (1953) and "Lady and the Tramp" (1955) seen among the maquettes in "The Reluctant Dragon" (1941!!!).
