Wow. Some don't seem like half-bad ideas, especially the ones that a). are based on decent but not really classic animated films, and b). would probably work just fine as live-action; thinking of Mulan and Sword in the Stone here. Others are sequels rather than remakes and it's all going to depend on the execution. Mary Poppins Returns is obviously in this camp. Others are just headscratchers to me. Snow White? Seriously? And though there have been (non-Disney) live-action versions of Snow White and Pinocchio before, it's hard to imagine Disney could improve their own originals, especially with those two. Of course, I guess that's not the goal. The goal is to make money. And the Alice remake, even though IMO is wasn't very good, made a boatload. So did Jungle Book, and Cinderella did well. Beauty and the Beast just opened big. So I guess they're going to keep doing this till they see diminishing returns.
Those were also the two that jumped out at me as "Hey, this could actually be kind of decent". SITS especially was such a weak animated film compared to the rich legend that inspired it, that it would make some sense to revisit it and essentially create an entirely new story. Similarly, Mulan hints at a lot of backstory that is glossed over in the animated film, which could bring some new depth to a live action version But most of the others either seem misguided (Cruella, Dumbo) or just like outright bad ideas (does the world really need *another* Peter Pan film?). In general I'm not a fan of the live action remakes, since they just seem so uninspired. I know they're (mostly) huge financial successes for TWDC, but it just strikes me as the corporate team not having any confidence in the creatives. You can't top pigs with pigs, right?
