Next year Disneyland Paris is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Now the first rumours regarding the celebrations have emerged.

That steampunk Maleficent dragon is pretty darn impressive! I'm a little jealous that she's only in Paris...LOL! Are you planning on attending the festivities @dagobert ?

We plan on going to DLP next year, we still don't know when.

Isn't that Maleficent dragon the one from the Magic Kingdom parade?

I haven't been out to WDW in ages, so it could be. DLR is my home resort, but we might actually make our way over there this fall. I could report back to you if that happens...LOL! ;)

Yep, the dragon float is in Festival of Fantasy at MK, which debuted about 2 years ago. It's kind of an odd combination of floats, but that one really is quite cool. Plus, it breathes fire, which is always good fun

For the 25th Anniversary DLP's Space Mountain might also get a Star Wars overlay

The overlay wasn't really good at DL Anaheim, so I really don't need it in Paris. Now the best Space Mountain gets ruined even more, if the rumours are true. I'm a big Star Wars fan, but even if it's only temporary, I don't need that. Just bring back the original Jules Verne version. No one needs George Lucas, if you can have Jules Verne.

Maybe the temporary overlay would give them an excuse to restore a lot of the original elements after it is gone. Although WDW's castle got the now-infamous castle cake overlay for its 25th anniversary, it also got a great top-to-bottom refurbishment after the promotion was over. If they can find a way to ditch Mission 2 and go back to the original stuff, I think it might be worth it

Since the huge maintenance programm for SM was planned for years now, I doubt that the SW overlay will contribute to bring back the original version. We already talked about that in another thread, but WDI just doesn't care anymore about the themes. SW just doesn't fit at all at DLP's SM. While the US SMs look bland from the outside, Paris' version has a very distictive look that doesn't look at all like SW. So I don't have high hopes that Jules Verne will be brought back. Still, I will give it a try. At least the thrilling part of the ride can't be taken away.

What a great way to kick off the celebration! I watched a video of it this morning, but it looks like these may have better angles so I might need to check them out too.

I'm really impressed with all the rare and obscure characters they had, though some seemed like odd choices to include or omit (like Clopin with no Esmeralda, Phoebus, or Quasimodo, or Pooh without any other characters from that franchise but dozens of super-rare characters). I liked how they linked the characters to the various lands, and I especially liked the Discoveryland crew. Apparently the Saudi prince was behind this, and threw in some funding to bring in character performers from around the world for it. It certainly seems to be making a splash online!

Overall, this seems like a positive sign of things to come. If I had to guess, there were 4 or 5 times as many performers (plus all the CMs at the end) involved in this as the Shanghai opening ceremony. Obviously it's hard to judge too much off of a single day, but it seems like DLP is beginning a positive new chapter

I'm not sure if the Prince was at the celebration, but it looks definitely like he was behind that, since he loves the characters.

While it would have been lovely to be there on the day I can't think of anything worse than fighting the crowds to see next to nothing.

I'll be celebrating my own personal 25th DLP anniversary in September.

I would have loved to be there on the actual anniversary, but I guess you are right concerning ther crowds. We will be there in May and are a little bit disappointed by the closure of POTC.
