I always assumed that TDL's Cinderella Castle and WDW's Cinderelly Castle are exact copies, besides the different colour scheme, but recently I cam across the following blueprint and it clearly shows some differences between the two castles. Soure: The Hollywood Reporter Not only is TDL's castle smaller, but there are also other differences like the entrance or some turrets. It also looks slightly slimmer.
I've always thought they were copies too, but I saw that image a while ago (in the Bob Iger interview, I think?) and it confused me. The WDW castle image includes the stage out front, while the TDL version is just the castle itself; considering the scale of the productions that TDL does, I thought that was an especially odd choice. The height difference is also confusing, since I had always heard that WDW's castle was somewhere in the 160' range, though I never remembered the exact figure. Like much of TDL's early structures, the castle was a copy-and-paste from the existing blueprints, with the units converted to metric so it could be easily built by local contractors. They've since changed the paint scheme (which I like better than the US version), but other than that they're virtually identical on the exterior, right down to the Dorthea Redmond mosaics in the breezeway I wonder if WDW's height is measured from the surface of the moat, while TDL's is being measured from the nearby ground surface. That's the only logic I can think of
Yes, I took the image from the Bob Iger Interview, because I just read it for the first time this morning. By the way I found it very interesting. Now I checked some pictures of both castles on Google and besides the colour they look identical. I guess THR made a mistake. And I also like the look of Tokyo's castle better. Since you mentioned the metric system, recently I read in a science magazine that NASA is using the metric system now. I thought that NASA has always used the metric system. Disney has to use both systems with so many parks abroad, but converting isn't really a problem.
I also thought that NASA used metric, since that's what is most commonly used is astrophysics (and regular Newtonian physics too). There was a rather high profile incident about a decade ago when one of NASA's contractors used standard for one calculation, and everything else was done in metric, causing the craft to crash into Mars instead of landing gently
I also like the castle in Paris the best. Second place goes to TDL's castle, but SDL's castle also comes close.
I don't think either of them are "Cinderella's Castle", just "Cinderella Castle". The reasoning for that has always been a little hazy to me, but the best explanation seems to be that the castles in the middle of the park really don't look anything like the one in the film. I suppose it could also explain why there are multiple with the same name, since Cinderella doesn't live there, it's just named for her (much like how Walt doesn't live at Disneyland) I don't really know French, but I think the name of DLP's castle loosely translates to "Castle of Sleeping Beauty", which would be the only possessive name. Even though the landscaping is similar to what you see in the movie, the castle itself is still quite different in design
