This has been the hot news for the past day. Do you think that Disneyland Resort will cancel their new hotel due to not getting a tax rebate from the city? It's hard to say. They haven't started construction, so they have a lot of leverage. One thing's clear, some heads need to be bonked together at the city counsel. Because, it sounds to me like Anaheim pulled a dirty trick, notifying Disney after all these months. That's bad enough, but for a city that virtually owes its lifeblood to Disney (after all, it is arguably a city built around DL), not to mention DLR employs almost 31,000 people, accounting for nearly 19% of Anaheim’s jobs, and the resort district is expected to account for $172 million in tax revenue during the fiscal year — or 43% of general fund revenue, I'd say the city is being foolish. Not to mention that Anaheim broke its tourism record for the fifth straight year with 24.2 million visitors, largely because of the DLR.

I know that it was popular but I could live without the Rain-forest restaurant. On a side note, I saw a lot of people post on Facebook that Disney should put a third park in that space. All I could think was there just is not enough room to do much there. Even a small water park wouldn't fit into that small parking space area.
I'm with @ni_teach on not bringing back Rainforest Cafe. I would be up for bringing back the movie theatre though. We usually caught at least one movie when we were at DLR because we would get into town mid-afternoon and not want to waste a full day ticket. Downtown Disney has gotten pretty sparse from what I understand, so they do need to fill it with SOMEthing. I wouldn't mind having a Polite Pig or some of the other dining options that WDW has at Disney Springs.
I guess we all have our own happy haunts. For my family, the last few years, we've enjoyed the Rainforest. I think it stems from a couple of really magical times we had there. Then, we just kept trying to relive those moments. I will say this though, whatever they put in that area, Disney needs to keep thinking "FOOD". Nothing like those Christmas wait times for a place to eat. We only visited the AMC once. But, I can see how important something like a theater can be. Just to sit and relax for a couple of hours if nothing else.
I heard a rumor that Earl of Sandwich is going to be a temporary opening, and not staying long term. Can anybody verify that?
Temporary was the last official word that I heard from Disney. But, that was before they announced scrapping the hotel plan.
Earl was supposed to have a permanent location in the new hotel, so it seems like they have a good relationship with Disney. I would assume they will remain open until Disney can come up with an idea for how to tackle the redevelopment of that area; it will probably be at least 2 years before they can develop a new design and start construction, so "temporary" is a relative term I also wouldn't be surprised if Disney found a way to keep Earl open (either in its current spot or a temporary location) during construction, as a way to maintain the relationship
That is good news. Earl is a great quick serve option over there. I will be curious to see what is going to end up filling in all of that space over there now.
