It's been since 2001 that we have spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in Disneyland. What a special time it was.
I'm either helping my cousins move my uncle's stuff to a new place, or enjoying an empty house on Saturday with some wine as Steve helps a friend put in some new plumbing.
May be actually getting away for a few days. It's pretty cold but we have heat. I just need to get away.
I hear you. I think we're going to try to go over to Long Beach next weekend to get away with the dogs.
We ended up going to Old Sacrament with our daughter's family. Just walked around the shops and watched the evening light show. It does not hold a candle to shows in Disneyland but it was good and fun. After, we went to Dinner at Mel's Dinner where, all the previous turkey and gravy notwithstanding, I got the hot openfaced turkey sandwich. It is so good but I swear next time I will try the meatloaf. New Year's Eve came about as my grandson wanted a chili dog at Mel's. But at $11 his mom said to get something else; we could make much better chili dogs at home. I said, "Let's do that New Year's Eve. Everyone agreed so I made a pot of chili and one of rice along with guacamole and Watergate salad. Then Carissa showed up with not only hot dogs and buns but a cake and noodles and lumpia from her son's girlfriend. We had no shortage of food. We watched the Bird Box and played backgammon and Telestrations. A very fun evening. Next weekend we get all the kids (even the older ones) for the weekend. Planning to woo them with my waffles.
We are taking the dogs to Long Beach this weekend. Fingers crossed for a break in the rain so I don't have to wear my galoshes all weekend.
The usual docent shift at the Printing Museum. With the almost-monthly docent meeting. Next month's docent meeting will be our annual Leland Award ceremony, honoring the outstanding docent of the year. (I'm a Leland laureate myself, from some years ago, back when the identity of the year's recipient was a closely guarded secret, especially from the recipient himself or herself.) Each year, I bake a cake for the festivities, with a picture of the trophy (a giant piece of foundry type, cnc-carved in wood, a "W", for Dr. Leland Whitson, for whom the award is named) on it. The local cake supply will do an unmounted edible print for $10, which is more-or-less the going rate. "The first rule of edible printing is that you don't run anything but edible ink in the printer. And the second rule of edible printing is that you DO NOT run anything but edible ink in the printer. And you still don't talk about Fight Club."
I am really looking forward to having my daughter's 3 kids overnight. I just hope I can keep them interested in a movie or even better some board games and off of their phones. The older ones are nearly 18 and nearly 20 so it's not like I have a lot of control over them. (My daughter and her husband are planning a date night and don't want anyone at home when they get there LOL.) I have promised them bacon and waffles in the AM.
Well, we had a pretty pleasant time. We never heard from Maile (the 20yo.) She did not have to stay here; she was just told not to come home. Still, I really wanted them all to be here. William's (the 18yo) girlfriend came and got him and they went out to dinner. He was here by 8 though. That gave us plenty of time to order a pizza, play Backgammon and Sushi Go with Connor before Jeopardy. Then the usual happened with the grandkids. The only video game we have is our 12yo Wii. They always scoff and tease about how old and silly it is. Still, when we got it out the boys were off the couch bowling and playing tennis and boxing and all the old WiiPlay. I finally had to tell them to stop at 10:30 and then they wanted to watch Phantom Menace. So funny. I did get the waffles and bacon made with whipped cream and fruit topping. I am gonna hate it when all the grandkids are grown up.
This weekend we will finish up Disneyland on Saturday. We will get home quite late and sleep all day Sunday.
Oh yes, I almost forgot: I spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon, as planned, taking down approximately 50% of the Christmas lights.
This weekend, unless I'm feeling a lot better than I am now, I'll probably be spending a lot of time in bed: I think I picked up my dad's cold, and it's a nasty one.
Lot of that going around. I am still only about 85%. Hope you feel better soon. We will start off with dinner with friends on Friday evening. Then joining many of the same group to march for women's rights Saturday morning.
