Ended up spending today cleaning the kitchen. Really needed to be done.
Now we are watching War Games and relaxing.

We ended up spending the bulk of Saturday at a car dealership buying a new to us Chevy Silverado. Why does it take so long to buy a car/truck? The negotiations were done in about 10 minutes, but we were there for almost FIVE HOURS!!!

Oh yeah! I hate when they get you in the back room with the thumbscrews to finish the deal. The RV took us two days!!!!!

I hate trying to argue for a good deal. It shouldn't be that hard. And I used to fight with the sales guys in the back who'd draw up the paperwork and try to sell me the extra warranties. Then, I learned that in Arizona, you have 30 days to cancel those added warranties, or the sale altogether. I didn't know that before. So now, because we always have to finance those purchases, I tell them go ahead and add the extra warranty. It speeds up the process. The next day, I call the warranty company and have it cancelled and I get a credit on my loan.

    That is great!

With the RV they had a whole new line I had never heard before. First he told us the interest rate was 7% and told us what the monthly payment would be. Then he went on about the extended warranty and how much it would cost and how much it would raise the payment blah, blah, blah. Then he told us he had great news. The interest rate would be only 6% so the payment would stay the same.

I swear the man was nearly in tears when I emphatically refused any and all warranties. (I think at one point I actually asked him if it was really such a piece of crap that it was likely to not last 5 years.)

We left with a smile as the loan with the lower interest lowered the payments substantially.

A few weeks later I was talking to a friend who just bought a new truck and he said that they had pulled the same thing on him. I guess it is a thing now.

This weekend Steve, Tristen and I are going to the car show. He has been hounding me to release my poor Mazda and get a Subaru. I might think about it once our condo in Long Beach sells...

Didn't take me very long to buy my current vehicle. Just went to the Enterprise used lot, stated my requirements (Japanese make, must have antilock brakes), picked out a Camry, quickly worked out a price, and net-30 terms, and I was on my way. Then, somewhat less than a month later, having liquidated a substantial portion of my CD account and my mutual fund, I handed them a check, and they handed me the pink slip.

That is what we are working toward with the RV. But we do not want to liquidate too much at once. I would rather pay 6% than lose 10.

Don't know what this weekend will bring. Though I am chomping at the bit for a mini vacay in the motor home; we do not need to do it on a weekend and weekdays are much less crowded and relaxing. I think we will try to get my daughter and her family over for lunch and to watch Coco. They have never seen it.

I'm hoping to get us tickets to a local theatre company performance of the musical, The Music Man.

Going out to dinner with my parental units to celebrate Steve's birthday on Saturday night, and enjoying some time to myself on Sunday while Steve watches the Super Bowl.

This weekend is the monthly docent meeting at the International Printing Museum, the biggest one of the year, because it's when we hand out the annual Leland Awards. This is the first time we're handing out two awards that aren't going to a husband-and-wife team.

    And there will be cake.

Looks like very little but that is okay. We have been pretty busy lately.
Though we are not huge football fans; I used to always watch the Super Bowl with my dad. So we usually set out some snacks and such and wait for the commercials. Our friends who used to host Super Bowl Sunday have their grandchildren while their mother is in Iraq. So they bowed out this year.

Oh yeah, last Sunday, after much looking and giving up and even having a truck sold out from under us; Rod found a promising one on CL. We headed to the dealership about 40 minutes away. All he needed was a work type pickup to last a couple more years.
We found it!! This place was small but seemed totally honest. A short drive down the street (it is so smooth and quiet, you cannot even hear it shift) was enough. Of course it was sold with no warranty either expressed nor implied; but at $2800 OTD we were okay with it. We were in and out of there in less than an hour.
The posts from last week put me in mind of this.

Going to Long Beach this weekend with my friend, Cheryl. I'm secretly hoping to get snowed in for an extra day or so...

We have a brunch with friends on Sat morning. Then, in the evening, my daughter and I are going to a crabfeed for the marching band. Diet? What Diet?
Then, with any luck, on Sunday morning we will leave for the Redwoods for several days. Mud and rain notwithstanding.

Yeah...not going to the beach this weekend. They are forecasting at least 4" at the beach (which is crazy), which means we would have too much difficulty driving back over the pass to get home before the next weather system comes through. So bummed...now I'm stuck helping Steve put in the doors in our hallway. Wine, movies, food and friend sounds soooo much better than varnishing doors all weekend.
