What movie did you JUST SEE?

Pet Sematary (reboot) : After a couple of glasses of wine it's not so bad...still not terrific, but not horrendous either. I personally liked the first one better...and of course the book is better than the movie in this case as well.

A Walk in the Woods : Lazy PJ Day on Saturday with friends. Great movie. Robert Redford and Nick Nolte actually make a pretty good buddy film. I believe it is based on a book. I definitely recommend this one.

Possession of Hannah Grace : Don't bother with this one at all. Even a bottle of wine wouldn't help this one.

 

I want to see this one. My daughter saw it at the theatre and thought it was really good. However, she hadn't watched the original since she was a little kid and doesn't remember much about it.
Wine should always be involved.

 

I think the best thing about the movie was the change in cats. Church was a floofy Maine Coon in the remake, so they could do sooo much more to his coat to make him creepy. I think the cat was a Russian Blue in the first one...

Yep...Russian Blue...hehe!

 

Yeah, he looks pretty evil. I just watched the trailer and it looks really good. I'll probably end up watching it at some point when it comes out on Netflix (Which, as it goes with Netflix, should be in just a few short years). While I like John Lithgow, I wonder how he compares in this film to Fred Gwynne.
Do you think they could ever pull-off a redo of The Shining?

 

Lithgow did a good job, but it's tough to compare him to Gwynne. That character was the one that was most like the original movie.

I think they would be better off trying to do Doctor Sleep (good book if you haven't read it), which is the sequel to The Shining. Do something new instead of trying to remake old movies.

 

Welcome to Marwen (DVD) - Not a bad movie, but I'm glad that I didn't spend $$$ in the theatre for it. I enjoyed the way the dolls were animated...it's what you would expect from a Zemeckis film.

Season opener to Game of Thrones (HBO) - sitting in the recliner w/ a glass of wine. So many different story lines to tie up in so little time!!

 

The latest movie we had seen was Captain Marvel, which was a lot better than expected. I especially enjoyed the 90s feeling, which the movie captured really well.

 

Todd Douglas Miller's Apollo 11.

Visually far more impressive than Gibson and Coe's nearly-half-century-old Footprints on the Moon, but it somehow lacked the warmth of Footprints. And the music wasn't as good: the Footprints score, based as it was on Philip Moody's Laguna Concerto, was a far better match to the visuals.

 

Local high schools gathered at a nearby theater for a film festival of silent-shorts that students had created in their media production classes. My son had entered his film. There were some surprisingly good films featured at this event. Popcorn, Junior Mints, and soda completed the experience for me.

 

Avengers : Endgame - Cinetopia parlor theatre with Tristen. I was bummed they have service in the theatres anymore because a glass of wine would've been nice. I LOVED the movie...needed some kleenex along the way. You don't need to watch all of the movies before this one either. They tied everything up nicely, and it leads you in to the third GotG movie. No need to stay for the full credits.

Glass - Netflix DVD at home on the couch with Steve and the dogs. This is one you need to see the other two movies to really understand everything. Unbreakable and Split are the precursors to this particular film, and I thoroughly appreciated the continuity M Night Shyamalan achieved. I really enjoyed this movie as well, and it had a great twist. I will probably end up buying this one.

 

In view of our recent stressful living situation; we have been sticking to light hearted or at least less emotional movies. (Rod fell apart at the end of E.T.) Anyway, we have been digging through the old VHS collection and last night watched Capricorn One. We had a little wine and some ice cream.

 

The Little Stranger : At home on HBO. Odd little independent flick. I think it was supposed to be a ghost story, but it was very convoluted in how it was delivered. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. I think it was based on a book...I'll have to check it out because we all know that the book is generally better than the movie anyway.

Adrift: At home on HBO (sensing a trend?). I enjoyed this movie much more than I thought I would. Water movies tend to have me a little on edge, but the wine evened me out nicely. Nice twist to a classic stuck out on the ocean kind of movie. Based on a true story, and I think it was a book as well.

 

Pacific Visions, in the new wing of Aquarium of the Pacific. This past Sunday.

 

Took a client to see Brightburn per his request. Horrible movie. Don't watch under any circumstances.

 

Clean Slate, VHS
Seemed a bit appropriate under our current circumstances.

 

Sounds jolly.

 

It was a cross between the Superman origin story and The Omen.
Superman as serial killer.

Mary Poppins Returns : DVD at home on the couch. I so wanted to like this movie, but I really didn't. The music was okay, but Lin-Manuel Miranda really needs to work on his English accent. The last 15 minutes of the movie made it almost worth my time with the exception of that final music bit. It was disappointing to say the least.

Bad Times at the El Royale : HBO - This was a fun movie! It reminded me of Four Rooms except the stories tied together much better. Great cast! Definitely worth it!
