Just tried the Black Tap location in Downtown Disney this past week. It's menu lives up to it's name which is basically Burgers, Beer and Shakes. Overall I would say that I was not impressed. It was super confusing to get a table. You have to order and then wait to be seated. There were several groups who ordered after my party that were seated first. Generally the whole process was confusing. I should also note that the place was super loud and it was hard to talk with other members of my party. The prices were average to high for DTD and the park. Burgers were $15 to $19. I can not speak for the beer not having any. The shakes come at two levels. The first was a basic shake $9 and the second was their crazy shakes for $15-$17. From what I could see you get the same amount of shake with each but the crazy shakes were topped with other items such as a full slice of cake. Unless you must take a picture with one of the crazy shakes for Instagram I don't think it is worth the price. Quality was only OK. The burgers I would only rate as average, nothing special. You can get better burgers else where in the area and park. They also did not cook our to order. I wanted medium and I got closer to well done. The basic shake was thick and alright. One of the odd ball things was when I wanted a glass of water I was told by the server that I had to go to the bar and get it myself. The same is true for refills from what I heard the table next to me. Overall while the food wasn't awful or anything I can not recommend this place. There are many better options around.
Thanks for the warning. I probably would have wanted to try it since I like beer and burgers...well, and shakes too. But, those prices and the conditions sound over the top.
I personally think that the best cheeseburger at the park is currently at Grand California Hotel, White Water Snack or under the places new name Craftsman Grill. I can understand if this one is not for everyone but I really enjoy it. Best Shake I would say is made at Ghirardelli in the DCA.
I agree w/ @ni_teach about the best shakes! There's something to be said about a shake made with real ice-cream instead of soft serve. Thanks for the general review of Black Tap. I was interested in checking it out, but now it's not as high up on my list as it was. The ordering and seating sounds rather backwards, and it's poor form to have customers get their own refills. Guess you don't have to tip as much if you're getting your own refills and all they are doing is bringing your food...
Thanks for weighing in. I don't know when I'll be in SoCal next, but when I read they were building this place, I also thought it sounded right up my alley... but if the burgers are only so-so and it's all overpriced, what's the point? Thanks also for cluing me in about burgers at Whitewater/Craftsman. I've been there, but haven't gotten a burger. DL itself has always had terrible burgers (and for those who think things were always better back in the day, I can tell you - in the 60's/70's the burgers were WORSE! Little gray hockey pucks, really...), and the burgers were only decent at the Condor Flats place in DCA the first time I was there, not long after opening. Will have to try Whitewater/Craftsman.
My thoughts exactly. Fifteen bucks or more for a shake? And the confusion over seating sounds obnoxious. That's long been one of my beefs (no pun intended) with eating at the DLR; so many cafeteria-style eateries where I've gotta hope there's a table that's open. Not a problem for 2–4 people, but for larger groups at rush hour it gets dicey fast. To say nothing of trying to juggle trays of food that kids are too little to carry. Even if they bring you your food here, I have no interest in ordering then waiting around wondering when I'm going to be seated.
