It was a fascinating concept, yet the movie seemed a little disjointed. It's labeled as a romantic comedy. However, it was minimally humorous and there seemed to be very little chemistry between the two love birds. I won't reveal the ending of course, but it was kind of ridiculous. I get the ending. It just seemed like they were trying to wrap things up too quickly. Still, it was entertaining and it put me in the mood to watch some Beatles videos.
Been out of the loop a bit. Glad you are feeling better. I think we will be watching Demolition Man tomorrow with kids, grandkids and their friends. Most have not seen it or do not remember it.
Cult of Chucky (Netflix streaming) : I was stuck w/ my foot up because I had a cyst removed from it and there wasn't anything else on. Amazingly it wasn't a bad movie though...okay...it's bad, but not THAT kind of bad...LOL! Plenty of humor, and it actually tied in a bunch of the other Child's Play/Chucky movies rather well. Gore galore with at least one scene where I had to pause to go frame by frame to attempt to figure out how that special effect was created.
Evidence of a Dream. The digital version that the CSRM has been showing for the last decade or so is but a pale shadow of what it was when they were still using a film print, but it is still, among museum orientation films, second only to CW's game-changing ViataVision epic (that redefined the whole genre), Williamsburg:The Story of a Patriot.
Midsommar - Netflix DVD - I'm not really sure how to describe this movie. It was reminiscent of The Wicker Man in a way, but much darker and more psychedelic drug use. It also made us not want to go to Sweden during that particular time of year. Don't get me wrong...it was an enjoyable movie, and it has been reviewed as one of the best horror flicks to come out in quite some time. It was creepy, but I'm not sure that I would throw it into the horror category...I tend to reserve that category for more of the jump scare/gore type of movie. This was done by the same people that put together Hereditary (another good creepy movie) which was also a fun romp into craziness. One piece of advice...pay attention to the little things...they do come into play throughout the movie. Captain Marvel - Netflix DVD - Okay...I know...two opposite sides of the spectrum, but if you were to look at my DVD/Blu Ray collection it would make more sense. I liked this movie a whole lot more than I thought I was going to. I have enjoyed the Avenger movies, and when saw Endgame w/ Capt Marvel in it so I figured I should check out her story. I have to say one of my favorite characters is Goose the cat/flerken...he is just too cute for words, and slightly reminds me of my Mo. Goose is way smarter than Mo is though. It was a fun movie for me, and I would contemplate adding it to my collection.
Last evening: The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The 1923 Lon Chaney silent. With Robert York at the "Mighty Möller" of First Congregational Church of Long Beach, in a presentation by the Long Beach Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
Young Frankenstein. Inga has just given the Doctor "a little peace," right before his fiancee arrives.
Young Frankenstein is one of the best movies EVER!!! We watched it last week. In VHS format. Last night we watched 13 Ghosts. That is a Halloween tradition. I love it but it freaks Rod out. "Hey, is that 1/2 the lawyer??!!??"
Actually, the plan was to see Dracula: Dead and Loving It first, then Young Frankenstein, but there was a small matter of one of our cats disappearing (and missing her dinner!), leaving us not knowing if she'd slipped out before we'd locked the cat door, or if she was simply hiding someplace indoors (it turned out to be the latter), which took up a fair amount of my time. So I opted to see the better of the two (although Dracula: Dead and Loving It is hardly the weakest Mel Brooks movie, and is indeed rather underrated). Last night was rather dead: only seven groups of kids (with an average of about 2 per group) showed up. leaving most of the Hershey assortment my dad bought, and most of the mini Cow Tales I bought, undistributed. I dug out my genuine BeaglePuss brand Groucho nose-glasses for the evening. Up until I got them, a few years ago, I never realized that Groucho nose glasses varied in quality.
Oh yes! The Dollar Store ones are very poor quality. We do not get Trick-or-Treaters. We were planning to go to our daughter's to pass out full sized candy bars but we had a long day and it was super cold. So we stayed home in front of the TV.
I wasn't aware that there were "Dollar Store ones." My old pair came from either a drugstore or a Halloween pop-up; the BeaglePuss ones came from a local clown-supply shop (yes, there really is such a thing) called House of Humor. (I'd been there once before, when I worked part-time for an ice rink that doesn't even exist anymore, and we needed supplies for face-painting.)
Got the Regal Unlimited movie pass. Seen 5 movies in a month for about 20 bucks. Saw Terminator last night. Loud with lots of explosions.
That sounds like a good deal! Are you able to cancel whenever you want? I'm jealous you've been to the movies THAT much...LOL!
Transylvania 6-5000 Amazon, comedy/horror Pretty corny. But it was a hoot seeing Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis in a much younger time.
