Hello- Crazycroc times going on...When I last checked in it was to talk about trivia...I then had to pass kidney stones at home due to being unable to go to the hospital due to covid 19 restrictions on my "foster" client. Never had kidney stones, do not recommend. We are on 7 months and one week without leaving the house. Cookies reset and couldn't find my password.. This sucks. Your pal, Crazycroc
Reminds me of an episode of Barney Miller. "You Dirty Rat." Ripped from the headlines about "Marty the Marijuana Mouse," the 12th Precinct has a rat who was eating some confiscated marijuana, so they call an exterminator; meanwhile Sgt. Fish (Abe Vigoda) has a kidney stone. The exterminator (Ned Glass) and Fish are having a conversation about two different things: the exterminator thinks they're talking about rats, and Fish thinks they're talking about kidney stones. (Quoting from memory):
I remember that; a roll on the floor laughing moment. Good to see you posting crazycroc! Though I have not experienced those nasty stones myself; I have witnessed it in others. That was enough to keep me drinking water and cranberry juice. Hope you are feeling much better now. We had a good weekend celebrating our grandson's 17th birthday. We even got out to look at the fall covers. It was no easy task to social distance as it was a beautiful day and many folks were lining the lanes with their cameras. We all masked up and even managed to order some garlic fries to eat on the pier.
I'm glad I figured out my password and am back...I try to play trivia with Gideon and Doobie whenver I remember. It's fun you guys should try it. Please pray for us...we are in a similar situation to the folks in nursing homes who can't see other people. I was allowed to see my daughter from 30 feet away on her birthday for 10 minutes....arrrrghhh...The developmental disability population literally has a 50 percent morbidity rate to the virus, so I will stay in as long as it takes to protect my best friend.
At the height of Barney the Dinosaur's popularity, if anybody came up to me, talking about "Barney," I'd always ask, "Barney who? Barney Rubble? Barney Fife? Barney Miller?" Likewise, if anybody talks to me about "Elvis" (or accuses me of "talking to Elvis"), I always ask, "Elvis who? Elvis Costello? Elvis Stojko? Elvis Schmiedekamp?"
The only thing I ever liked about watching election coverage on television was the theme, "Salute to the President," that Henry Mancini wrote for NBC's coverage. And they retired that over a quarter-century ago.
@crazycroc It's good to see you posting again around here! So sorry that this has been such a rough time for you with the kidney stones and being stuck inside. Your friend is lucky to have somebody like you that is willing to stay put with them due to the illness. It's hard not being able to be around loved ones...I think we all have missed out on a birthday or two or three for family (or ourselves) during this time. I'm still hoping for some sense of normalcy to come along, but I think it will be a long time coming.
I am afraid PNWT is right about it being a long time coming from what I have been seeing lately. Getting *bored or anxious* is not a good enough reason to act carelessly to the detriment of others. I have seen people on another forum state, "I am just done with this Covid thing." (Then they post a week later that their whole family is sick.) Just about everybody in my family has had a quarantine birthday now. My daughter's is coming up in 3 days. She has gotten pretty creative with her kids. They bought the 11yo one of those inflatable unicorn costumes and took her to friend's houses for a virtual hug. She even had a *tap off* with her dance instructor which was hysterical.
Damn straight! <censored>-A. Just because I'm tired of this whole mess doesn't mean I'm about to run out without my mask, or work at the Museum without a KN-95 (with the nose-stay molded to fit my nose -- why can't people realize that's the whole purpose of HAVING a nose-stay?)
I wholeheartedly agree with both of you!! My family has been SUPER lucky considering that Steve and I both go in to work, and he works more directly with the public than I do. I just get to deal with the homeless population around my workplace. None of them wear masks or properly distance themselves from others. I have to walk in the street to avoid the tents on the sidewalks. One more thing that has been on the tip of my brain...why don't they change the wording to physical distancing?? People should be encouraged to be social with one another (in a safe fashion, of course) during this time because so many are dealing with depression and anxiety on a larger scale. Steve is finally recognizing the effects that MONTHS of stress has on a person physically. When I get home it is all I can do to do a couple of household chores and make dinner before I am wiped out. Anybody else in the same boat?
They have tried changing the wording. It didn't stick. And I was informed that my father and I have a relative (one neither of us knew) who died of COVID-19. Or more precisely of utter stupidity in failing to respect it.
My sister and I were just talking about this type of thing. The folks we know who have gotten it have failed to follow the guidelines. She knows a sick family in Mena who went to a wedding where 60 people got it! My son-in-law works at a bank for Pete's sake. He has even been exposed. But he follows all protocols including showering and changing his clothes before touching the wife and kids. None of them have had it. They have been antibody tested and that was negative. We just got word that Rod's mom was exposed again. She tested positive two months ago and was asymptomatic so hopefully she has some immunity. Let's all stay safe and sane so we and LP will still be here when we return to, shall I say, typical? (I hate the term *new normal*.)
I really wish they had started with physical distancing. We were out walking when some neighbors and their kids went out and around us with their heads down. I said, "social distancing does not mean you can't say hi to your neighbors." They chuckled and asked how we were doing. We can still smile and wave from 6 feet.
"Consider yourself hugged" has become a minor catch-phrase with me. And actually, "they" should have started (in January!) with a 3-day closure of all ports of entry, a 3-day moratorium on all flights entering the U.S. from any foreign country, and ordering all carriers to institute a mandatory 10-foot/3-meter spacing between persons not traveling together, and mandatory health checks, and mandatory prioritizing of returning U.S. Citizens (with any groups with one or more members presenting unexplained respiratory symptoms segregated to medevac service) on flights, trains, and buses entering the U.S. from a foreign country, along with a mandatory 14-day quarantine on any ship arriving after docking at a foreign port, and to prepare, on short notice, to institute the same protocols on domestic service. And "they" should have started with immediate suspension of enforcement for any patents involving respiratory intensive care equipment or valveless N95 masks, and Defense Production Act invocation for those things, to be in effect until we had sufficient stockpiles of equipment to increase respiratory ICU capacity at least fourfold, and provide every man, woman, and child with a 90-day supply of valveless N95s (8 per day for doctors and nurses, 5 per day for other medical personnel and all first-responders, and one per day for everybody else). "They" should have also restricted N95s with unfiltered exhalation valves to industrial use, in fields involving hazardous dusts, mists, or aerosols. Ain't 20:20 hindsight wonderful?
My parents were travelling in Australia/New Zealand the first part of March and had more stringent checks at airports there than there was here. They were already checking temperatures the first part of March over there. When they came home (maybe 3-4 days before shutdown) there were no safety protocols in place when they landed in here to go through customs. They would've been safer staying in Australia...they might have been a little strapped financially with finding a place to stay, but they wouldn't be dealing with the craziness that is going on here.
I wouldn't mind being stranded in Australia. We have friends there. But then we would not have been allowed to see them.
Thanks for the support guys. My nephew who is in seminary has caught the virus now. Has had symptoms for a week. Hives, swollen hands. Very weird symptoms. I played trivia with Doobie and Gideon again tonight, and stunk up the place. Agree with everything you guys say about stupid people being "sick" of it...not knowing anyone who had it, etc. NONSENSE! My peer group was nurses, doctors, etc as I used to be a hospital administrator. It so disheartening to hear their stories of those who didn't "believe" who get sick and they have to take care of, and those who think it's fake and a billing bonus that hospitals are using to get funding. Our country took a really big stupid pill at some point. It is unrecognizable to me at this point.
My father and I were recently inducted into the fellowship of those who had lost relatives to COVID-19. Not anyone we'd ever actually met (nor in my case, even heard of), but family nonetheless. Assuming we weren't already in that fellowship, without being aware of it.
