This information just came out and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. Not happy about the parking, or lack of it, at the lower levels.
Hmm. Assuming it includes park-hopping, the lowest level probably has a break-even point on 3 visits, the middle level at maybe 3-5 visits, and the highest level not less than 7 or 8 visits. Without park-hopping, the break-even point would be quite a bit higher. And so far, DL has done nothing to break their current pattern: for everything they do that makes me want to reinstate my pass, they manage to do at least two or three things to make me want to go a full year without setting foot in the place.
Not sure when we will be ready to make that jump again. Especially with reservations. If we get one Believe and one Dream Key (what we did in the past with Deluxe and Premium) that's $2348!! The upside is; we have almost that much in Rewards Dollars.
The prices seem the same as before the pandemic. It is just the reservations that are different. My guess is the reservations will disappear by the end of the year. Disney is always behind the curve on that kind of thing. I think I'll spend my time at Knotts instead.
I visited Knotts something like a decade ago. Well into the post-Knott-Family era. I wasn't impressed with what Cedar Fair had done with the place. I was a bit shocked that the Haunted Shack had disappeared. It was fun. Especially watching those who didn't understand how the illusions worked, and/or who were struggling to keep from falling over on the sloping ground. And of course, taking the Haunted Shack Oath for the first time: Repeat after me: I I Got Taken Got Taken (That's the whole oath.)
While I'm sure people closer to the parks are jumping for joy, this is a real downer for me. Perhaps the reservation system (if it lasts) makes things a bit better, but the last few times I visited Disneyland, it was interminably crowded. I was really hoping to go sometime next year, secure in the knowledge that it might not be as busy without locals strolling in whenever. But with APs coming back, just rebranded with silly new names, it makes it tough to justify spending that kind of money (airfare, hotel or Airbnb, tickets, food) all so I can be jostled in a crowd all day long and wait in line. I've said it here many times and I'll say it again, I can take my whole family anywhere in the country or even some places overseas for a couple of weeks for the cost of what I would spend to go to Disneyland for five days.
Well, if you're having to fly in, and planning on spending a whole week, maybe WDW might be a better choice for you: more parks, more space in the parks, and more to do outside the parks. And a lot fewer locals in the parks, because the Greater Orlando area has fewer locals to begin with. Really, the only thing that DL has over WDW is that Walt's fingerprints are all over DL, and a lot of those have been fading in recent years.
Uh, "Magic Key" is the old term for the "universal" attraction tickets in off-season Magic Kingdom Club Member ticket books. (The busy-season version had ordinary letter-denominated tickets, but a few more of them.)
Here is what I have not seen information on: 1) Fastpass or Max Pass 2) Park hopping. Is it like now you can only hop after 1:00? Or is your reservation one or the other?
I was wondering about that myself. Lack of (or restrictions on) park-hopping would certainly raise the break-even point. On the one hand, a high break-even point would discourage people from buying passes in the first place, reducing overcrowding, but on the other hand, it would encourage those who did invest in passes to visit more often, which would increase the overcrowding. Over the entire time I had my pass, the break-even point hovered around half a dozen visits, but that was when both the passes and the day admission were much lower. Seems to me that somebody is getting a tad greedy.
It was also a time when gas was much cheaper, but that's no longer relevant to me, since my last hydrocarbon-burning vehicle was hauled off to its final rusting place back in January, and I've been driving a Leaf ever since.
Just saying "HELLO!" to everyone who's still here again. I couldn't even reach the boards for the longest time... once or twice a week I'd try to come, and just get the "spinning colored ball of death" and nothing would come up. The LP home page and current goings-on pages yes, but the discussion boards, no. I thought they might be gone for good, and then lo and behold, they're accessible again - at least for a hot minute! Hope everyone is doing all right. If I'm able to get to SoCal next year it will have been 5 years so I'm sure I'll fit a trip to DLR in there too. It sure has been a strange couple of years. As an out of towner, the reservations don't phase me. And I have to disagree that WDW has "more to do outside the parks." Maybe in the absolute immediate area, but if you're willing to drive 60-90 minutes, I certainly find SoCal far more interesting culturally and physically than central Florida (which I think sometimes Californians take for granted). They don't have anything like the Getty or the Huntington... the mountains and the desert... the live theatre and music options in LA... even San Diego/TJ if you want. Damn, now I'm Jonesing to get back to SoCal!
I am glad you kept checking. I was going through every link I could think of and finally, when it opened back up; I was truly shocked. I just do not do much online and LP is one place I still get on even if the audience is limited. I really miss my Disneyland fix. But it all seems so overwhelming to me. I have a dear friend who just came back and said it was wonderful. I now have a *smart* phone so can do that crap but do not know if I want to. I am hoping that one of my daughters will decide to take the grandkids and include us. Then they can make up the schedule and we will just follow along. I think I will ignore the new stuff and just ride the old standbys and spend a lot of time relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. We have accumulated a large sum of Rewards Dollars in the past 2 years on our credit card so money is not really a problem. Just working on motive and opportunity.
Welcome back @Dabob2! I relied on @iamsally to poke me when the boards came back up because I got tired of the page not loading too. We are thinking about a January Disneyland trip for my guy's birthday. We went to WDW in September, and it honestly wasn't that bad. Lines were manageable and it was incredible not having to figure out what we wanted to ride MONTHS in advance. I am jonesing for a Matterhorn Macaroon like you wouldn't believe!!
