5th park?

I know that Disney's expansion plans are probably on hold in today's financial crisis, but, I couldn't help but wonder what a new park would be like. What would the themeing be? Think this was possilble or just a bunch of Hoo Hoo?

The "5th park" is a concept they've been throwing around which is really an offshoot of Animal Kingdom with a very high entry price and sort of a "boutique" level of service. Search around for "Night Kingdom" and I'm sure you'll find plenty.

(the concept is supposed to be sort of an answer to Sea World with their "Dolphin Encounter" park...have you heard of it? something like that)

If there's any other "real" 5th park in the works, I've not heard about it (although I did see plans for the "ultimate" build out of WDW and that makes room for SEVEN parks...some day, and I don't think that includes "Night Kingdom").

I don't agree that attractions cant stay open without a sponsor. We have seen many of the sponsors pull out of attractions and stay open. Look at the Country Bears, Living Seas, Norway. They all had sponsors at one time. The American Adventure had 2 when it opened and now has none. What I do think helps with a sponsor being on board is there is someone outside of Disney that has a stake in the quality and upkeep on an attraction. No company wants their name to be attached to an attraction that is run down.

Having said that...Disney has had problems keeping sponsors. I spoke to a sponsor rep about a year ago who told me that Disney was difficult to work with, their contract was very restrictive and the benefits were negligible. They pulled out when their contract ended.

On my last day there I spent half the day just walking around, taking pictures and filming. I call TDS one of the most photogenic parks in the world.

You know something, thematically Tokyo Disney Sea and Sea World have nothing whatsoever in common, zippo!--- they are as different as 'simulated exploration' is to live 'sea urchins/whales/penquins'



Actually Animal Kingdom thematically is much, much closer to Sea World.

Obviously a TDS at WDW is not going to happen anytime soon, or in reality even within the next ten years. A company that is removing honey mustard sachets from restaurants is not about to drop the 1-2 billion necessary for a park like TDS.

That being said, I actually would not want the WDC to even bother trying to build this park in Florida. They would probably do a HKDL and cut out two or more ports for a start. Add to that they would cheap out and probably only build one side of Mt Prom and the "eruptions" instead of being giant balls of flame like in Tokyo would be exploding confetti guns or those red and orange ribbons thta shoot up with compressed air.


No, leave this jewel in Tokyo and don't allow the bean counters and small minded accountaneers to mess with it.

The one thing I can never wrap my head around is HOW you could build a DisneySea without an ocean (okay, a bay) next to it. To me, it's an integral part of the whole atmosphere of the entire park. You'd have to make some major changes for it to even make any sense (the S.S. Columbia would have to go, for one thing...anyone ever notice that she has a clear "route" out of the park and right into the bay? How cool is that!?).

exactly what % of WDW visitors are rednecks ? Unless this is Bob Murtha giving his review, it is very small and there are plenty of yahoo's all over the world - the US redneck is not an anomoly.

I have yet to meet one of these rednecks inmy stays @ OKW( or Poly or GF prior ) -

I do know Jeff Foxworthy though ( I used to work with him- true story- his dad a retired IBM exec ) - maybe I can ask him.

agreed - the same question I have always had -- and building another Seven Seas lagoon would not do it either.

But the deluxes/DVC I would guess only cover a small proportion of WDW's park guests (and I did meet some at AKL).

The day that I was there, it was fairly foggy, so I couldn't see the ocean at all. A couple times I was able to make out a couple ships, but it didn't really feel like I was on the ocean. I'm sure they could manage to make the park work without it. My first reaction to the layout of the whole thing was that the sea wall was just a clever berm without having to build a real berm (or another land/attraction) over there like what they did in the rest of the park in order to save space. Yes, it looks like it's one of Disney's best illusions out there, but I think that the park could have been built without it. If they ever need to expand the park, I wouldn't be too surprised to see them reclaim some more land, move the street and monorail and add more attractions where the wall is now.

Actually I think we wouild. Even RedNecks admire beauty, and quality. We just might not be able to express it as eloquently as some here might.
