Frankly, my problem with them is they are a distraction.

People come in and see one holding the remote on the bed and don't bother to see whether the sheets are clean.

I want what I pay for -- a clean, well-maintained resort room. And, yes, if I don't get that there'll be consequences.

Exactly my point.

Should the people at the WL in those 40-50 old, dirty, banged up rooms pay the same rate (or maybe more) than the folks in the new 'standard' rooms?

What about the poor souls at the Contemporary in the North About to Become DVC Wing? Should they be paying the same as those in the South Wing, which has the same ultra-modern, high-end rehabbed from top-to-bottom rooms? Hell no. They should be paying maybe $100 at most. But this is Disney. We all know the reality.

Not quite. It was supposed to be in some nebulous category between mod and deluxe. It never fit either and certainly was closer to deluxe, yet had moderate sized rooms. It's a problem that can't be dealt with now except to price it lower, which Disney has.

I stayed there the week it opened for $99 a night. But as recently as two years ago, I was staying for $119 as an AP rate and then upgraded for free into courtyard view rooms. There always seems to be discounts for the WL, which I don't understand as it's truly wonderful.

You said a mouthful there brother. WL for us is the hidden jewel in the WDW resort crown. Besides the wonderful architecture it has location, location, location.

We love the grounds and it's proximity to FW, CR, Poly, GF, MK and the monorail since we spend more time @ Epcot. We always feel we get the biggest bang for our buck @ WL. Did I mention we really like this resort?

We really juggled with whether to go WL or AKl on our upcoming trip. In the end, we decided with napping toddlers, the animals gave it the edge, and then when my MIL said she wanted to come, we needed a room that could sleep five.

If we go without the MIL in future, then WL is probably our next port of call.

dave even if your MIL goes next time don't rule out WL. If it fits your budget and is available they have small amt of deluxe rooms. The nice thing here is it gives you 2 seperate rooms. There is a living room of sorts with a sofa bed and french doors between that and the sleeping area with 2 queens I believe. That would give all some privacy as well as extra room. Just a thought. BTW the AKL is great also.

I have nothing substantive to contribute to this discussion (no surprise there...). But I had to laugh at your terminology, Mike. I'm sure you meant that today's reality is hunky-dory. Your term kinda sounds like it was coming from a white inner city kid!
