I wasn't disappointed...but I wasn't blown away either. The genie was, of coarse, the real star of the show. He was very funny, but he was just a little over the top IMHO. I wish he would have played it down just a bit.

As for the rest of the show, it was...good. Not amazing. Something is missing. I liked Nemo at WDW's AK much better.

I think we dodged a bullet this year with the 'Toy Story' stage adaption from the cruise ship.

I've thought for a while that - especially given DLR's repeat base, that a musical review would be ideally suited for this location. It steers clear of the need for talky plot exposition and goes straight to the big musical numbers. Additionally, since they rotate different cast members in and out over different times of the day and week, different performers could have different songs that they do and would allow for shows to be a somewhat different on different viewings. Have a few big 'set pieces' and then allow for different songs in-between. That way the show could play for years and not grow stale as quickly as a specific story.

I have to say that shows like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid in WWO are much more enchanting even if they are both park shows. There is something missing in Aladdin but I just can't put my finger on it.

I've been trying to figure that out, too. The show failed to spark much emotion in me, except a few laughs. Maybe that's it. Not much heart. Only one memorable song.

On the other hand, I couldn't stop thinking about the Nemo show after seeing it...and that was on a trip WITHOUT my kids.

Just cut it down a bit and we can have Little Mermaid shows in both DL and WDW. I know a lot of people hated it but maybe those sets and costumes would be better suited for a theme park show. I mean the WDW one is really cheesy but I love it. Though Aladdin is lacking in heart I guess I would rather keep it there then put something bad.

Finally!!! I always thought that I was the only one to feel this way, everytime I would see it with my family they would all love it but for me it did nothing.

The Genie has never really done it for me. There are occasionally individual jokes that make me laugh, but there are too many points where the entire show stops so the Genie can do his schtick for a few minutes. It doesn't add anything to the plot of the show, and it's not really fun enough most of the time to completely stop it, the way a lot of songs can get away with it.

The first time I saw the show, I thought it was alright. At that point, it had already been running for 3 or 4 years. In the time since then, I have seen is probably 6 or 7 times, and it just doesn't get better. The park has been open for 10 years, and this show has been running for 7. For a show to last that long, it should be great; this show is not great.

On the bright side, I would rather be forced to sit through it again than to see the Toy Story musical.

Whatever show eventually replaces Aladdin needs music that is familiar. Fortunately Disney has a song catalog that is both deep and beloved. So much so that they don't need a structured play - just go with the tunes, which is what the guests want anyway.

Well, yes. "You've Got a Friend in Me." Catchy tune.

So California was denied this great performance. I still love this on my CD which reminds me I better purchase another one before it becomes obsolete.
I actually think your idea is good. Disney knows it is time to replace Aladdin but this show plays so popularly to the "locals" It has become a distinct cultural or ethnic symbol of pride onstage that the audience really needs. Disney has created a musical salute to solving the blending of all races and social issues by showcasing Talent including the beloved young person in the wheelchair. This will be hard to replace for all those reasons. ANd Corporate Disney probably deserves more accolades for its creation.

Nemo in AKL didn't need that.
