We are going to DL for my daughter's 2nd birthday on Sun, Sept 23rd. We are just staying one night. I have a room reserved at DL hotel for $129. It was supposed to be just me and my 3 kids (13, 4, and 2)so being an easy walk was a high priority. We've never stayed anywhere but DL hotel.
Suddenly, my son (13) desperately wants to bring a friend. More surprising my husband will now be there (he's back from Iraq for only 2 weeks)So now I'm afraid that the room won't be big enough for 2 adults and 3-4 kids.
I saw the Anaheim Plaza has family - 4 beds-suite for $98. I don't care about frills, but I do need a clean room. Should I go for it? Stay at DL hotel? Somewhere else? I don't mond the shuttle (as long as I don't need carseats of course) if it's convenient.

If not, I've stayed at the Anaheim Plaza, and it was in one of those family suites too. It's directly across from the DLR driveway so the walk is maneagable. It's not as close as some other of the Harbor motels but I think it's definitely nice for a cheap motel. I actually liked it. The "suite" is just two connecting 2-queen rooms, but you do get two full bathrooms that way (each including a pretty large dressing area), as opposed to the 1br suite at DLH where you'd only get 1-1/2 baths.

If ever at all possible I'd try to make the DLH work, but if it's unavailable or unaffordable, I'd recommend the Anaheim Plaza. I have recommended it to my friends who couldn't afford the DLH and they enjoyed their stay also.

I have stayed at the Anaheim Plaza hotel and it is just a old run down motel (all open corridors) I would never stay here again - we had bugs and no hot water!!!

I checked the Holiday Inn Express on Katella and it is 109.16 USD
Average Nightly Rate 2 QUEEN BD FAMILY STUDIO STE - this is a large room with 2 queen beds and a pull out sofa bed. If you request room 402 (corner room) the sofa bed is in a separate room - perfect for the 13 year olds. Also the Holiday Inn express has a continental breakfast (pastries,bagels,hot/cold cereal, fruit, etc)...The shuttles are $3 per person and parking at the park is $11 so I would see which would really be better.

That was a great idea Villains had about calling them and telling them about your situation. I'm thinking they'd be happy to give you the suite for the same price you paid for the room, I know if I was working the phones, I would!
    Have a wonderful time!

The photos show a sofa in the room with the bunk beds. It looks nice and it's right across the street on Harbor Blvd.

I was not able to view the rooms b/c their site kept shutting my browser down. I couldn't get a price for the BWPPI, maybe they were sold out for that date.
(I was clicking on all of the hotels with suite in their name that were across the street from Harbor on Bret's lodging map.)
Can you tell I don't want you to stay at the Anaheim Plaza? lol

That is so wierd. Especially the pool. The pool area was so nice and it was crystal clear. That's another reason why I liked the place--the pool was much, much better than your usual motel pools.

Well, we were there last September and our friends were there early May, so maybe they changed management or something since then?

I like the Desert Inn and will be staying there in Oct. The place was clean and fairly quiet. We are staying in a Parlor Suite. We stayed there last Dec and had no issues.

The staff there, is very friendly and helpful and the value is over the top. In order to afford to go, I have to watch my pennies...so the price is what keeps me going back.
    Hope this helps,

It is a no frills motel, but it works for us!

In the least, they may be able to put you in one of the rooms at the DLH that have two queens and a daybed.(Those are the rooms I've had at the DLH in the Sierra Tower-or whatever it's called now.)The Paradise Pier Hotel may be a good choice, also, as their rooms have the daybeds. Good luck, and I hope you have a great time!
