Bed Bugs?

Okay, so my trip to WDW is about two months away and my wife is starting to freak out about bed bugs on our vacation. She's been going on sites like bedbugregistry.com and bedbugger.com to see if Disney hotels have had them. It's gotten to the point where she's so crazy about it, I want to cancel everything!

Any advice on how to handle this? I really need a vacation, but if my wife is going to be so paranoid about it, I might as well stay home. HELP!!!

No, really. I have no idea. This was a topic on my talk radio show today. I guess they're everywhere & they get in your lugage so they follow you home! It's disgusting!

Disney is taking very aggressive measures to curtail the bed bug invasion. They have acutally hired a beagle that is trained to sniff them out. When found, there is a very extensive program to kill them which involves raising the temperature of the room to some unholy temperature.

If found in an occupied room they will actually take all of the personal contents in the room to a facility that they can do the same super hot temperature treatment. Apparently it is a very costly endeavor for the company.

So, I guess you can at least tell her they are not ignoring the problem.

I stayed off property for a week at the end of August and had no bed bug issues to speak of.

It is not a souvenir to bring home on any trip! I always make sure my luggage is not on the ground and my shoes are on a shelf or in the bathroom if it is not carpeted. Do bedbugs just like mattresses,couches and carpeting or do they survive in homes with hardwood floors? When you get home wipe down and vacuum your luggage.

Thanks for the info! That might calm her down. As things are right now, she wants to bag all of our clothes in special air-tight "baggies". I'm just afraid I am going to wake up one morning at the hotel and I'll be in one large bag!

I think I fear all these extra taxes and fees more than the bed bugs or bedspreads! Yeah, but the bedspread doesn't suck the blood out of your body while you're sleeping and leave sores all over your body.

The guest demand higher fees.

NBC Nightly News had a story on bedbugs tonight. Apparently there's a whole cottage industry arising with the bedbug infestation. I worked at a hotel too and can confirm. Never touch the top blanket b/c only the actual sheets and pillow case gets changed between quests.

As to your sheets, if I were staying at a WDW Resort (and most other hotels for that matter), I'd be demanding they change sheets nightly ... because you really are sleeping with many spirits when you sleep away from home.

Hahah i wouldnt demand a chamber maid to do anything. You never know what they could do to your toothbrush! The sheets are changed before you sleep in the bed, but it's the fitted sheet, beadspread and top blanket to make sure your skin never touches!

Thats because there are people who live with them instead of dealing with them. Bedbugs are not friends!
