There is an article in the Sun-Sentinel about the closing of Millionaire at MGM. It stated a new ride is being put in its place. According to the article:

One, Bob Frazier, a veteran Disney employee who is a trainer, coordinator and attraction host at Disney-MGM, said the planned new ride was described to him as a top attraction, and as a cross between Universal Studios' Men in Black and Disneyland's Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Has something to do with the Midway Madness ride DCA is getting, they will be building both rides at same time. There are many threads over in the DCA area if you want to learn more about the ride.

The attraction is indeed 'Midway Mania' ... a clone of what is being built for DCA.

It is indeed supposed to be a Buzz/Men in Black type attraction with the Pixar characters (supposedly Toy Story except NO Buzz) with the added aspect of riders wearing 3D glasses, which will trigger certain special effects making it a different ride to some extent every time.

Al Lutz had a large blurb about it in his most recent column on Miceage.com.

But it is an innovative attraction. And a welcome addition to both parks.

I will miss Millionaire as I enjoyed it, but attendance ( outside of the 2 Star Wars shows earlier in the SWW days ) was filling only half the attraction the last two times I have been there.....

The new ride sounds like some needed life for the Studios.

That said, is this going to be the model for the future - that whatever one park gets the other park has to get? I didn't mind the occasional clone moving from coast to coast. But if they're just going to morph into cookie cutter copies of each other, what's the point?

The two locations are very different in shape and size at present so I suspect there will be more changes than you currently have with the five Buzz attractions.

That said the theme doesn't look like it will change.

It sure looks that way. WDW did get Everest and M:S, but I think they are at a point now in the planning stages, under Jay no less, that when they can they will try to spread the rides out globally. More times than not. The minority of time when they choose to address a specific circumstance like the 20K footprint in MK, that I think, is when we will have a better chance for something unique.

Hmmm. Not sure where you heard that but this attraction was on the boards before the Pixar purchase in January. It hasn't changed a great deal since the first mark-ups either.

Pixar are consulted on all WDI/DCE projects that involve their characters though.

I think the "regis-es" will probably manage. Most of them work some of the other live shows besides IWTBAM. I know that one played the Lion at the Festival of the Lion King and another plays Indiana Jones at the stunt show.
