My understanding is that Disney Dollars are only available at the parks (or by mail order) and that they are not printing any new designs. They try to push everyone on to the gift cards.

You can pick them up in a few different stores in Disneyland. I got mine with no wait in Tomorrowland.

Mawnck - I think you could say the same thing about pins and Vinylmation and anything Disney collectible.

    Oh wait...... :)))

I think the actual dollars are much more fun to give as gifts, although maybe today's cashless younger generation would prefer cards.

BTW, are the accounting rules for estimating breakage and converting it to revenue the same for Disney Dollars as they are for gift cards?

    :)

Plastic giftcards have the same accounting rules as paper gift certificates. Basically if they have an expiration date you have to wait until the earlier of being spent and expiration and if they have no expiration date then you need to estimate the likelihood of being cashed over time and release the deferred revenue under the same profile. Most companies will have released all of the revenue within 2-3 years of issuance.

I'm off to put a cold towel on my head - answering that took me back to my days at Andersen advising the likes of WorldCom, Global Crossing and Enron!
