I would love to get my son Fantasmic!, but it appears that is does not present the whole show - rather splices together scenes from DL and WDW which, while interesting, does not have the wonderful atmosphere of the original, and may leave out show elements - says the most important ones are "represented", makes me a little leery. Has anyone seen this one in particular? Is it worth it or would it be a letdown for a fan of the DL Fantasmic!? (We've seen both, and both are great, but we love DL's more.) I would really love to get DS just a straight good qualty runthrough of the DL show, but can't find it. Also can anyone speak to the overall quality of this person's videos? I assume if it's on LP it must be good as I wouldn't expect to find any DL junk here, but I would love some first hand knowledge.

    Thanks for any input.

P.S. which park are you interested in? I'm assuming Disneyland, USA.

First, let me point out that these DVD's are apparently duplicated on DVD+ format disks and may not play in some older players, so be sure your DVD player can play DVD+ disks. (On my older player, the picture pixilates and then skips and eventually freezes up, as it typically does with DVD+. On my newer player, they played fine.)

Keep in mind that these are not professional productions, and thus are subject to some of the follies of amatuer videography and limitations of video photography in low light situations. I'd say that Jeff's camera work is somewhat better than the average tourist videographer, though. For the most part he avoids a lot of the constant panning around all over the place and zooming in and out that I always find distracting and annoying. He provides pretty thorough coverage of the attractions on both disks.

That being said, some material is better and some not as good. On the HMH disk, the camera used for the 2001 HMH version was apparently better able to photograph under low light conditions, so you can see more. The 2005 version coverage suffers from too dark of a picture. Still, if you want DVD with pretty decent coverage of the attraction, this one is pretty good for the price offered on LP. I would say that the HMH coverage on WindowtotheMagic.com's Disneyland Holiday 2005 DVD is very, very well done and I could recommend it as well.

As to the coverage of the WDW Magic Kingdom Fantasyland attractions as seen in the early 1990's, I believe (Before some of them were revamped, closed or replaced.), the video coverage is pretty decent. He covers the exteriors and queue's as well as the rides. Some of the dark rides are so dark, though, that you can't see much, if anything.

There's no fancy effects or anything like that, but nice title overlays and dissolves/fades between many of the shots for smooth transitions.

The menu's are nicely done with photos from the attractions covered. Each DVD also includes some still photo segments accompanied by music and short video sequences of the areas around the attractions.

Those are the only two of Jeff Lang's DVD's that I have seen. Even though they aren't the ones specifically asked about, hopefully the info gives an idea of what to expect. I consider myself a pretty good videographer, so believe I'm qualified to assess these DVD's. With the plethora of fan based DVD's becoming available, I'm hopeful LP and other sites will do more (honest) reviews of them so that we can all determine which ones are worth getting and which we might want to pass on.

    BTW, you'll enjoy ParkHopper's videos! :)

If you're after RU42's stuff, just do a search on ebay for Disneyland DVDs and he should come up.

It is a crime that they don't come out with a decent park souvenir DVD that captures the magic of Disneyland in a satisfying way.
