It is an urban entertainment area with no controlled access. The fact that it is 'Disney' doesn't exempt them from the bad guys that those areas attract. I would NEVER walk in any of the DTD parking lots after 11:00 PM. If you want to be there late, take the bus.

Most of it is relatively minor, and your chance of being a victim is relatively remote. But why take the chance of having your vacation wrecked? Of course I wouldn’t go downtown Minneapolis after 11:00 PM either, so maybe I’m just a wuss.

They were driven to an ATM and forced to withdraw money, then driven to a landfill and told to get out. The guy, fearing for their lives, grappled with the gunman. The gun went off in the air, scaring the two theives who quickly sped away. The 2 went to a nearby house and called the cops. So the moral of the story - don't walk to your hotel from DTD, and NEVER GET IN THE CAR!!!

Earlier in the day, certainly. But in my experience Pleasure Island got increasingly scary after about 11:00 PM (especially the last few years); and the parking areas were even scarier. That is frankly why we stopped going to Pleasure Island 3-4 years ago. Well, that plus the unconscionable closing of the Jazz Club. Maybe my lifetime suburban existence has warped my view, but I would consider any part of DTD outside of the heavily trafficked areas somewhat unsafe late at night.

You're safer running (weeving and ducking if necessary) than getting in a car with the bad guy, even if he's pointing a gun at you. I'm just releived they were only beaten in that remote area and not raped, murdered and dumped.
