Yep, I now see that I did. Sorry about that. Let me fix it:

"Because they believe that they are going to be paying for other people's healthcare via increased taxation."

    Well, they're stupid so...

"Nevermind that many of them pay no income tax at all because they're poor."

    Yep. No further comment.

"Of course, these people consider themselves "middle class"."

Because they have no attachment to reality.

The sort of thing I watch for:

NBC, UniVision and Tribune Media (KTLA) all showed the float and discussed what was going on on it.

    ABC did neither.

    Sprinkle or dunk?

I didn't watch the whole parade, but IIRC there were several churchy floats this year.

I think someone should do a Spanish Inquisition float. No one would expect that.

If we did that in Utah they'd all have to be dead.

About 2/3 was "Why do these people need to 'advertise' themselves and force their sinful ways down our throats?" And that's the sanitized version of what was said (yes, the "f word" was used. A LOT).

Did they not notice that - seriously - about a whopping 3 minutes ahead of that float was the eHarmony float? Which featured half a dozen straight married couples? Not getting married ON the float (although a straight wedding apparently has happened in a prior TOR Parade), but the whole point to the float was that these were married couples.

What were they advertising (besides eHarmony of course) if not the fact that they were straight, and married?

More charitably, they were saying (in line with the "dreams come true" theme of the parade this year), "Isn't it great to be in love? And when you find the one you love and want to commit, isn't it great to get married?" Which, of course, is all the float with the same-sex couple was saying.

Seriously, I couldn't believe no one in the comments section even made the connection. But that's the thing: straight marriage seems "normal" to them so when they see examples of it, it doesn't come across as "advertising" it, or anything like that. But when they see a same-sex couple their heads explode and they say "they're trying to make us think that such a thing is normal!!"

    Well... yeah.

Maybe that'll be the spin-off series they've been talking about for The Walking Dead - a group of zombie hunters who are trying to baptize as many zombies as possible.

You'll never find a more retched hive of scum and villainy. You must be cautious.

Best not to read them at all.

It's not just "the gay" that gets slammed (though that's a favorite punching bag, to be sure), but one can witness all of the vitriolic hate that makes up the idiot class of humanity at it's most deplorable on display for all to see.

Correct - It's LCMS - and this post set me on an investigation of how the reaction is going, particularly given that the stated theme of the Lutheran Hour / LLL float was "Jesus Welcomes All".

In general, exactly as you'd expect. The more liberal ELCA is delighted, the LCMS is mortified, and the LCWS is, as always, insane (Michele Bachmann used to be a member). Quite a few comments were, in a roundabout way, suggesting that the theme should be adjusted to "Jesus Welcomes All - Except THEM!"

It was an "interesting" placement in the running order, to be sure. The LLL has had a float in the parade 64 times, and it seems a little odd (and more than a little petty) that they would just happen to stick this long-running church group's float - the only religious group in the entire 45-float, 91-participant parade - right THERE.

There is some talk going around that when the floats were seen on HGTV, there was a high school band between them (presumably McQueen HS from Reno, who started out in front of the AIDS Healthcare float). I don't have any first-hand info about that.

Old term, meaning "non-ordained members of a church". Think "the church members that actually do stuff".

These guys don't really use that anymore. They're now Lutheran Hour Ministries, named after the radio show they've produced since **1930**.
