Anyone think of any potential spots in the Cape Cod area where Duffy resides?

To be fair if I was in his shoes I too would most likely spend most of my spare time at the Tokyo Disney Resort. Unfortunately the cloest I can get is Disneyland Paris.

In regards to Duffy, why is he always associated with the Cape Cod area of Tokyo Disney Sea. Is it to do with his Irish name?

As far as the bears themselves go, they look identical to me! Lol!

Oh, and someone that remembers better than I do can correct me on this, but I believe when Duffy first showed up at TDR he was called the "Disney Bear". I heard that TDR people thought that giving him an actual name would work better with the Japanese Guests. If that was the case, they sure were right.

I didn't spend much time actually reading it, but it didn't really make sense to me, since it looked like Minnie had magic powers, even though she was never shown in the little booklet.

The backstory to the US "Disney Bear" is indeed different from "Duffy's". I guess his fits more to the "Cape Cod" area. The US story goes like this.

"One night, before the park opened, Mickey was sitting by the castle. The rest of his friends had not arrived yet, so Mickey brought along his favorite teddy bear to keep him company.

Mickey was so excited to be in such a magical place that he wished he had somebody to explore the park with. Suddenly, Tinker Bell flew down out of the starry sky and saw Mickey sitting there with his stuffed friend.

She had heard Mickey's wish and sprinkled the bear with pixie dust. The pixie dust filled the bear and he miraculously came to life! Mickey was so excited and happy that he gave his bear a hug. As soon as Mickey hugged the bear a magical Mickey head shaped impression appeared on the bear's face, forever bonding him with Mickey.

From that moment on, Mickey had a very special friend to share all his magical memories."

Personally, I find "Duffy's" story a bit more romantic, and not quite so sugary-sweet. Also, the bear's popularity in the states has gone way down over the years, and you can only find certain ones like the one you saw, Ferret, which was the "My First Disney Bear", I think.

I think that's in keeping with the general sensibility at TDS vs, say, a MK.

My Japanese friends saw it and of course wanted to know how to get their hands on one. That is of course the ONLY reason why I know about it. I am not a "Duffy otaku". Lol!

The name "Duffy" was first used during Christmas 2005. That's when the current backstory was released.

    * The original backstory accounted for the reason there's a Mickey mark on Duffy's behind. The WDW version had a princess star patch.
