In your opinion is it better for me get many fast passes, or just one? I ask because it seems t me that if I go first thing to get my fast pass for splash mountain they are almost out and then I can't even use it until late in the evening. Then I don't get anymore fast passes for the day because I used it on Splash. In your opinion is it better to get on splash faster or wait in those longer lined rides and use a lot of other fast passes throughout the day?

Go grab your Splash fastpass early. You can also get in the single rider line if you don't mind your group being split up.

Or, if those options aren't good, you could arrive early enough to get a fastpass for it and then go to another attraction and explain your dilemma to the CM who is working the fastpass distribution machines, they will almost always use one of their magical options to issue you a fastpass for that attraction right away and then you can go to your next attraction when your two hour window on the splash mountain fastpass is open again.

But despite that, every attraction with FastPass will honor a ticket right up until one minute before closing. They won't accept them early even if you're literally seconds before the window begins, but they won't even bat an eye even if you're hours late.

The fact is, CMs know how many FPs have gone out, but do not know how many have come back in. If they did it would help a little with casting. But alas...
