You must be able to drive under tight conditions, in low light levels and even seated in weird positions for what I understand. My suggestion is to call Casting at WDW and inquire about requirements for that particular position.

It was one of those things that happened on a rotation basis.They gave you a basic 2-4 hours of training on the floats. If you were better on one float than another (remember there are floats of all sizes). Some were more difficult than others. You did it more often if you could handle the hard ones. Compared to being in costume driving the floats was much cooler (temp wise) than doing the parade route in costume.
