They usually have rather shabby facilities and lousy projection and sound (although that's less of a problem since the world went digital), and they run movies that have already finished up their runs at the full-price theaters.

Not sure if this will work where you are, but here's a link to the second-run place closest to me, an old theater in an older-but-still-doing-pretty-well indoor shopping mall. This will give you an idea of the kind of entertainment such venues provide for next to nothin'.

That was in 2007. However once we got Military discount when I aksed for Student discount, which is very common over here.

Usually we pay 7,5 Euros for a regular movie and 8.5 Euros for 3D at the local multiplex. So that's about 10 to 11 US Dollars.

    Why?

I'm wrong. We have only been to the AMC in Columbus, OH. In Toledo, OH, we have been to another chain.

    (1) Overpriced.

    (2) Crap projection on outdated, poorly maintained 2k projectors.

How strongly do I feel about this? I drive past three AMCs (and a couple of Regals) to get to the Carmike I usually see my major release movies at. I got free AMC passes for Christmas and so far have gone to the Carmike anyway.

Quality projection and sound + Competent equipment maintenance > New pleather seats with giant cupholders

(And the Carmike is about $3 cheaper.)

For some reason that always made me snort.

I don't have a Carmike near me anymore though. I go to Cinemark most of the time.

You mean the Rainbow Road level from Mario Kart? : )

I've never seen it at a Carmike (the last time I went to one was probably in 2006, before I moved), but I've seen that intro several times at Edwards and Regal. Are they owned by the same company?

And for cheesy intro videos, AMC definitely has the worst. My friends and I always make fun of the one that's a couple teenage girls reminiscing about the time they saw a movie and there was a super dreamy boy there
