I only started watching a couple of episodes ago after peer pressure from my friends (and we're no doubt behind here in Australia) but I've loved what I have seen! And yes, mostly for the singing numbers :)

I'm not sure if it's just a generational or regional thing, but "gleek" always referred to a spurt of saliva that sometimes shoots out while you're talking. Gross.

Interesting. I always thought that it was 'gleep.'

But 'Glee' is a fun show. Amazingly enough, my brother-in-law, who is about as All-American Straight Guy as he can be, also loves 'Glee.'

    Go figure!

I really like how they manage to take the rediculous storylines (and let's be honest, some of them are really out there) and make them humorous and entertaining, but still manage to pack in those heartfelt moments that really make the series great. It's those little moments (Kurt with his dad, Sue with her sister, Finn with his mom, Imagine, Schu with the minivan, etc) that add so much to the characters, by doing such a small thing.

There are a couple of the interwoven storylines that seem to get dropped for extended periods because they just don't want to deal with them (Mrs Schuster's pregnancy-though that got some attention in the last episode, Mr Schuster/Ms Pilsbury/Coach Tanaka, etc) that I wish would get a little more screen time, but I'm assuming that it's on its way. For a while, it seemed like all the conflicts were resolved in an episode or two, so it's nice to see that they are starting to take on bigger issues that will connect the series.

Most of the musical numbers are pretty good, but I don't nessecarily think they're the highlights of the episodes for me. A lot of them seem a little forced, or don't quite live up to their purpose (like the screensaver running in the back of the "plain and simple" True Colors), but I really like how they manage to take popular songs and work them into the storyline. They are almost always done as a performance, yet the lyrics are about what's going on in the lives of the characters, which is an interesting way to do it, as opposed to the traditional musical where songs just happen.

And I'm pretty sure that Sue Sylvester is one of my all time favorite TV characters. Ever.

As to the music, what I really enjoy are the mashups of songs, like when Shu did Don't Stand So Close To Me mashed with Young Girl. Just a perfect medley, performed extremely well!

Yep, that was one of the most outstanding mash-ups I have ever heard! VERY well done!
