Now IS the time to seize the day! BroadwayWorld has learned that Disney will film NEWSIES this August, at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles. Returning for the filming will be original Broadway cast members Jeremy Jordan and Kara Lindsay. The production, currently on tour plays the Pantages from Aug. 30, 2016 - Sept. 4, 2016. There is no word yet if the production is headed towards the big or small screen, or who else might be joining or re-joining the cast for the filming. The tour currently features Joey Barreiro as "Jack Kelly," Steve Blanchard as "Joseph Pulitzer," Morgan Keene as "Katherine," Aisha de Haas as "Medda Larkin", Anthony Norman as "Oscar Delancey," Stephen Michael Langton as "Davey," Andy Richardson as "Crutchie" and Turner Birthisel and Ethan Steiner alternating the role of "Les." I saw the production when it was in Portland. The set was pretty darn amazing, and the singing/acting was phenomenal. It made for a very fun evening.
WHEE! I never thought going to do that on Broadway until today. I hope it comes on DVD and download. Also, I hope it's like Rent: Live, Billy Elliott The Musical: Live, Memphis, and Stephen Sondheim musicals like Into the Woods. And I hope it includes audience and curtain call.
I'm seeing Broadway's NEWSIES filmed live at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood -- there are only 2 dates left – Saturday, February 18 at 12:55pm and Sunday, February 22 at 7:00pm. The rest of the engagement there is sold out. In my opinion, it's the best place and only way to see this if you are in LA!
