You do get dining discounts at WDW. If you don't get the premier pass at least get a Disney Visa, you do get shopping and some dining discounts with that. If you stay on property at WDW you get free parking at the parks regardless of what type of pass you have. I just read the response to your question on the DL page and got totally confused. How many days are you planning on each coast? If you have to make a choice I would go with the WDW annual pass.

I will be going to WDW and DL in less than a year and it works out much cheaper to just buy the park hopper tickets.

At WDW it CAN get you a pretty good discount on rooms, up to 30% if you go when they offer that promotion. I've never found the room discounts enticing enough to stay on Disney property in California. There is occasionally special merch available for APs and discounts, usually with $50 purchase. With the Premier now at nearly $1k I would only consider it if I were bicoastal and able to make a few trips to both resorts in a year.

I was trying to justify the pass by going on two DL and one WDW trips in the year, but do I really need the extra trip? Plus as a non local to a park and no monthly payment plans I cant cough up almost two grand for two passes.

We did 5 days in DL and 10 days at WDW, and did the water parks. We stayed at the Grand Californian at DL and Port Orleans Riverside in WDW and found the AP discounts at both hotels very helpful. There are AP discounts for the dining plans at WDW too, and since we were doing the deluxe dining plan the discount saved us a lot of money. The discounts on merchandise and dining at DL (including bottles of water, which we always end up spending a small fortune on) were also really good. Next year we are doing another 10 day WDW trip, but will only be in DL for about 3 days, so only one of us will get the AP in order to get the discounts, and the rest of us will just get park hoppers. We did the math and figured that with the price increases we would have to go WDW for 10 days and DL for at least 7 days to make it worth all 4 of getting passes. Whether it is worth it for you and your family will just depend on how you usually spend money on your trips.
