I hope it picks up and hopefully more interesting things will start happening. Of course with everything going on at DCA most people who have visited both parks will be more interested in whats going on rather than WDW.

I don't think it is the new guests that are the issue. Disney will always draw people for the first visit. You are more concenred with drawing returning visitors by way of adding new things to bring them back and the attendance numbers would suggest that it isn't an urgent need.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. If theree is any place that needs to build a larger fan base and attract more people it's Universal Orlando. This is purely wishful thinking on my part, but I'm hopeful that if Fantasyland is a huge success Disney will be encouraged to make more changes and additions to the Magic Kingdom.

ALL the parks need changes and additions. And there are just too many to keep up. Yes, the lackluster management team doesn't help things, but having to constantly add to, refurbish, and overhaul 4 theme parks, 2 water parks, a shopping district, and countless resorts puts such a strain on resources. DAK is the straw that broke the camel's back, IMO, and the whole resort has suffered for it. DHS and DAK each need significant investment, EPCOT needs 4 of its Future World pavilions revamped, not to mention an addition to WS, and MK needs one more thrill ride and countless refurbs. On top of that, the infrastructure in the resort is going to hit a breaking point sometime soon, IMO, and something needs to be done about that. Obviously, the parks are still enjoyable without these, but I think if Disney doesn't dump a good amount of capital into the parks and overall resort over the next decade, we could see a lot of problems.

All of that is true, however the Magic Kingdom is the oldest of the lot and the flagship park of the resort, if not all of Orlando. AK and DHS may be in need of attention, however none of the attractions there have been around as long as the headliners in the Magic Kingdom. Injecting some new life into the Magic Kingdom is a good thing and hopefully is an indication of more good things to come.

Disney's attitude of "wait till the last minute to act" really needs to change in Florida, or things are going to start piling up on them.
Originally Posted By Scutr >>does the most popular park in the world need to keep on building?<< Of course it does. Every organism (and to an extent, a theme park IS a "living thing") needs to constantly grow and change or else it withers and dies. Just because the MK has escaped that problem so far doesn't mean it's immune. And plenty of folks here have complained that it has already succumed, attendance notwithstanding.

They can't juggle four parks keeping them all up-to-date. MGM's been their focus over the last several years, and to be honest it could still use another couple of family rides. Will it get those rides? I'm not holding my breath. Epcot has been pretty much left to fend for itself ever since Soarin' opened however many years ago. Minor improvements here and there, but nothing worth planning a trip to see. DAK got Everest whose main feature promptly broke, and since then DAK's gotten nothing. Why not? MK needed the Fantasyland expansion, though I'm still amazed by the amount of land devoted to the project and the fact that only two new rides are included. For the last few years, I've pretty much visited WDW for one day each year. I don't expect to visit this year. I just don't think the "new" additions over the last decade have been very spectacular (I certainly don't feel compelled to revisit them), and with very little on the drawing board, I don't feel much need to return to the parks anytime soon. SeaWorld and Universal have really taken the place of WDW for my family's park-going. And I'm thinking I might check out Discovery Cove at SW this summer. I think I'd prefer it to checking out the overcrowded WDW parks. As long as WDW management sees the parks as secondary to the development of timeshares and resorts, I doubt I'll be visiting very often. But TDO realizes they have an automatic customer base with DVCers and families with children who see going to WDW as a rite of passage. The parks won't miss me, but I can't really say I'm missing the parks right now, either.
