Alright, admit it...who o' y'all out there has ever watched a soap or watches one now? Let's get this all out in the open, lol. I grew up with "Days of Our Lives" and "Another World" on in my house and at my grandparents (dad's side) cause that's what Mom, sis, and Gran watched a lot. My other grandparents have always been and still are "Young and the Restless" freaks. And my sister was obsessed at one point with "Santa Barbara", evidenced by a dramatic entry in her diary which is hilarious, LOL. But due to DOOL and AW bein' on so much around me as a kid and growin' up, I was familiar with some of the characters and families and stories, etc. Well eventually I got hooked on "Another World" thanks to psychic private investigator Frankie Frame (I just love her name), and Australian actress Carmen Duncan as the venomous Iris Cory Wheeler. Ryan Harrison became Frankie's P.I. partner and he was cool too---I loved watchin' them workin' together, and that's part of what really got me interested in P.I. work. I love how P.I.'s can be "legally sneaky" to catch bad guys. I love Frankie and Cass's house, and I love The Cory Mansion, and with my country rearin' I always thought it was cool John and Sharlene had "the farm", and thanks to SoapNet's current airing of the show in a 16-years-prior-to-now repeat run, I've been able to enjoy Frankie and Iris's and Ryan's "debuts" and stories. So that's my soap story, and I'm stuck to it. What's yours?

I dropped out of the soaps during the late 80s-early 90s, but I got back into it around 94-95, during my senior year of high school. I remember the summer after I graduated, 95, I was really into days but I was getting really frustrated with the whole Marlena possessed storyline. I remember one day, my friend Josh and I were talking on the phone while we watched it together. We were MST3King it (before I knew what that was, lol), making fun of the horrible plots, when the phone line just completely went dead. There weren't any storms in the area, even, lol. We called each other back and said that this must've been the writers, trying to keep us from making fun of their work. ;-D I can't get into soaps any more, though. I did try to get into Days a year or two ago, mainly when I was working on the night shift, but I just couldn't get into it.

And I remember "different" Caliope, lol, and Eugene...I'll unfortunately never forget seeing once at my grandparents when Eugene was in a wheelchair, fell out, and this black, red, and yellow t*r*nt*l* crawled onto him! AAAAAAGGHH!!!

When we moved to AZ, GH and Days came on opposite each other, so I gave up GH. And then the stuff with Jan, Philip, Shawn and Belle made me give up on it. I don't think I've watched in 2 years.

Well, with nothin' much else on, he started watchin' Days (maybe AW too, I dunno). But I remember one day my sister or I changed the channel when we came in and he hollared up with "Don't change it I'm watchin' that!" Of course he'll never admit that now, LOL. And during the Marlena-possession craze I had the TV on "Days" once when I was still livin' at home and he walked in from another room to get somethin' and said with an "I don't *really* watch this but I'm just curious since you have it on" attitude (yeah right, lol), "Is Mar-LAY-na still puh-zest?" LOL I confirmed she indeed was, lol. <I remember one day, my friend Josh and I were talking on the phone while we watched it together. Ahh, fun times...

When I would watch it, I felt like my intelligence was slowly getting sucked out of my brain. Then one day, I stumbled onto Another World. I absolutely LOVED IT!!! I started having dreams about Jake and Cass. That was the first show that when it got cancelled, I cried. I am completely jealous of all of you with SoapNet, because if I had it, I would be able to go on and on with TDG about AW. BUT, now that Patch and Kayla are back on DOOL, I have begun recording it on my DVR once again. I think it's time to re-visit the Bradys, the Deveraux's, and the Horton's once again. Is Mrs. Alice Horton still alive?? I cried when MacDonald Carey died. Felt like he was my own grandpa. Do you see what you started TDG?? Pretty soon we're going to have to have daily updates on DOOL, since it's starting to get GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD...........

And I dunno if you've ever come across this or not, but it's about the best AW site there is: http://www.igs.net/~awhp/awhp. html It's AMAZING what all this guy has done with it! (and yes, Frances Reid is still alive---she's still kickin' around at 93 years old!)

After that, I'd go through periods of taping daily and then just reading updates and taping when I knew something interesting was going to happen or someone interesting was going to be on. Sorry I didn't tape Bianca's coming out. Been taping it daily for quite some time now, I think since Maria came back. Used to watch the entire ABC line-up ("Ryan's Hope", "All My Children", "One Life to Live", "General Hospital") except for "The Edge of Night". I still follow OLTL and GH via updates and will tape the occasional show. I subscribe to Soap Opera Digest, which is a weekly magazine, and through their articles and updates, I can follow most stories on most of the other shows, even though I've never seen a single day of any of those other soaps. I have a friend who's a huge "Days" fan, and she's amazed that I can discuss so much of the show with her, never having seen a single show, but of course I don't know most of the backstory and I still don't have all the family trees right. My favorites of the shows I've never seen are "Days" and "B&B". I'm not really invested in any of the stories on "Guiding Light". I followed ATWT a bit when Cady Mclain was on there, and I still pay attention a bit to Paul because of Roger Howarth. I've enjoyed the Cassie storyline on "Young and Restless" and all the repercussions and this whole thing amongst Phyllis/Nick/Sharon/Brad/Victoria. I find "Passions" to be a bit odd because of all the supernatural stuff, and I can't understand the appeal of Gwen/Ethan/Theresa considering how long this triangle has been going on. Do neither of those women have any self-respect whatsoever? Long-time soap fan and not ashamed to admit it. /cs

It was easy when we lived in an apartment, and didn't have to landscape and decorate, etc, but when we bought our house, we had less time for it. My wife picked back up briefly on maternity leave but that's about it. I was home from work one day last week and watched for a little bit and was not interested at all.
