But I just hate, hate, hate SpectroMagic and was wondering if anyone else, had the same adverse reaction if they saw the Eletrical Parade before seeing SpectroMagic. SpectroMagic always strikes me as cheap and disjointed. Thoughts anyone?

I guess what has set these parades apart in my mind is the perfomance aspect they had, or in the case of Mickey Mania, the singleminded way they portrayed the Mickey and ONLY Mickey... very whimsical! What I enjoy about all the other parades is not the floats or the characters. They're pretty forgettable to me. No, it's seeing the wonder and joy on the faces of the children watching. There is only one other thing that I really love in all the parades: the toy soldiers in the Christmas parade.

Weird, I know, just one of my things. Spectromagic, to me is not as good as MSEP. But when I am sitting on the ground next to a spilled tub of overpriced popcorn with little kids on their feet next to me, with fiber optic, LED, and laser lights in their eyes all aglow.... it somehow works for me.

Those who have seen TDL's Dreamlights would understand why.. >>SpectroMagic always strikes me as cheap and disjointed. Thoughts anyone?<< I don't think It's cheap but rather dated. Disjointed?... well..even the MSEP was disjointed to some degree. >>I NEVER like Disney parades<< Maybe because you have never seen the Disney parades at TDL. They don't get any bigger or better than TDL's. >>Truth be told, I really don't like Disney parades in general. << Ditto for Russ. >> I guess what has set these parades apart in my mind is the perfomance aspect they had, or in the case of Mickey Mania, the singleminded way they portrayed the Mickey and ONLY Mickey... very whimsical!<< BINGO! We agree on something Russ. TDL parades most always feature performance stops as well...and that included what I concider to be the best Electrical Parade of all time: TDL's glorious "Disney's Fantilussion!" (now performing in a much much more reduced and disjointed fashion at DLP, which is a real pitty) Regardless.. I do love those performance stops they do at TDL and it's reason why I also love DL's Parade of Dream and it's spectacular show stop. Even though TDL's 15th anniversary parade "Disney Carnival" remains the very best daytime parade of all times at any Disney park in my humble opinion. >> MSEP is my all time favorite. I have seen it at WDW and DL.<< ..and even TDL's version of it was rather nice with some unique floats of their own. Now... in closing here.. my opinion is that SpectroMagic is not an awful parade but dated. It has run it's course. I feel it should have gone to HKDL as they need all the help they can get. TDL's Dreamlights, which is light years ahead of Spectro in technical wizardry, should have been produced for DL on it's golden anniversary. TDL should have kept "Fantillusion" as it was simply a spectacular nighttime epic of a parade.. telling a story in 3 acts, with 3 (!!!) different show stops and over 25 float (!!!). Took 30 minutes to see the whole show roll by. In contrast, DLP's version is simply bad. So all in all. You wanna see a spectacular nightime parade and revisit that old MSEP feeling..? Then head to TDL and watch "Dreamlights", the most techincally advanced electrical parade you can see.

I would agree with the folks who like Spectro -- it's not a bad show, not at all. I love the music. And the 3 floats that change from color to white all in sequence are marvelous. (Walking characters too!) I think what I'm seeing more of here is "Whichever thing I saw first and saw it many times, I like better." That's a quite natural reaction in most people. I would agree entirely with TDLFAN and his "Fantallusion" remarks. I got to visit TDL a few years back when Fantallusion was running there. An awesome parade, and it's three show stops were marvelous. Speaking of creepy -- the Star Wars "dink-dinks" unit in that parade were enough to give you shivers as they paraded by. 20 or 30 short, hooded figures, with no visible faces, just the glowing red eyes in the dark. Whoosh! TDLFAN -- am I right?

(Walking characters too!)<< Oh God, these are the remarks that make me tell you.. GO SEE DREAMLIGHTS!! Everything changes color in that parade.. Everything! ..and not just colors, but the floats change lights in so many patterns that depending where you are in the parade route, you may see the same float look different. In other words... there is a "repeatability" factor to it.
