When we go in Sept./Oct. DH & I would like to do some L.A. area things we haven't yet done, namely Catalina Island & a couple of studio tours. Of course, DL is the main reason for the trip, but we'll probably only do 3 days there (since it will be our 4th trip in 1 1/2 yrs.) & save it for last. Anyone have any opinions about which tours are must-see's? Thanks alot!

I've done Catalina Island as part of a cruise we were on. We rented gold carts and drove around the island. We were ready to get back on the ship after a couple of hours. Maybe we just didn't come prepared but found it boring.
    Pretty... but boring.

I have not been to Universal since I was a kid in the 70's but have heard it's fun and the rides are good.

I think the Hollywood thing(Chinese Theater) is a must do..unless you've already done it.
I have lots of funny pix goofing around with the stars on the sidewalk.

We try to do something touristy each trip down. Last year we went to Griffith Park. We rode the Carousel that Walt Disney's daughters rode (I brought peanuts:) and went to Train Town. We tried to go to the Observatory but couldn't get parking. A bonus was we randomly went past the Church of Scientology :)

DlandDug was a big help in making suggestions for places to see :)

None of those are tours of course, but I'd also suggest the La Brea Tar Pits for a "you've gotta be kidding, this is in the middle of LA?" experience :) Very cool!

I think that we could have seen some actual filming but things were pretty quiet due to the actor's strike. (if I remember correctly) The tour lasted the entire day and was completely filled with fun and information. It was definitely worth the money!
