I mean, if they WOULD go ahead and make a movie out of Tom Sawyer, it might mean those nasty marketing types at the top would decide to put a Tom Sawyer over-lay on Disneyland's Pirate Island. And then things would be more appropriate for that section of the Happiest Place on Earth.

    Pirates Island certainly isn't totally out of place seeing that it is New Orleans Square, and there is the Pirates attraction and all.
    I liked the theme of Tom Sawyer though.
    I know movies about TS (and HF) have been done quite a bit, but I don't think they have been done as an animated feature by Disney. With the modern technology they have in animation I think it would be cool.

    ORDDU: Unfortunately, if Disney was in charge of the property, now, they'd probably ruin it--as they so often do with most of their period pieces these days--by throwing in too many modern jokes and references, which would end up destroying the innocence and original wit of the original story.

    ORWEN: At least Narnia was true to it's origins. If Disney would treat Tom Sawyer the same way, they could have a wonderful movie.

    I'm a purist, and modernizing tales with contemporary commentaries is so often out of place and, for me, detracts from the overall feel of the movie.
    That's my opinion though. I know a lot of people like the modernized edge.
    I'm a dinosaur though. I like the olden days and appreciate the original witty approach as well.

    My plan was to use classic Disney voices as all the characters--I had worked in Phil Harris, Geraldine Page, and a ton of others.

    I was young. :)

    I love the book TOM SAWYER, but I think movie versions ravage it. It's too painful to contemplate now.

    ORDDU: More importantly, they were rather forgettable. Nothing about them seemed to grab the general public's interest. My sisters and I seem to vaguely recall seeing them but weren't interested enough in them to watch them all the way through.
