I think that could be possible... Or even once more Decepticons find and retrieve the one's in the ocean, they could move to an area not as deep... But since they are technically alien's, I think the first response works well and will help *hide* them as they rebuild their forces...

    >>OK, but *why* does having the cube on a bot's chest kill it whereas if an inanimate machine touches the cube (or gets its energy), it brings it to life?<<

This I am not sure... Also being alien, the cube could only affect metals. They said it created worlds, they didn't say what the inhabinants of these worlds were... For all we know, they could have 1000's of worlds across the galaxy that all have robots...

Seeing as though the cube thing wasn't in the cartoon, I don't really know where they were going with the whole thing...

The most bothersome of which was Bumblebee, one of my favourite Autobots.
Why oh why did they have to make him into a Camero ? and worse yet why did they have to have him parked right next to the VW Bug he should have been when they introduced him. That was just teasing.

While the effects of them transforming looked really cool, I would have liked if they still resembled their car forms a little more when they transformed. It was hard to tell them apart in robot form, especially the Decipticons.

In the Cartoon there was 'All Spark' who created the transformers, good and bad. I always believed that All Spark was not necessarily a physical thing, but more of a transformer 'higher power' of sorts. The cubes were Energon Cubes which are what provided power for transformers and what the decipticons and Autobots were always fighting over.
I guess making All Spark into a physical thing worked for the movie, but I was also confused as to why it only seemed to make Decipticons.

As far as them throwing the 'dead' Megatron into the ocean, we all know that putting a Decipticon into the ocean will not kill him. It will only make him mad and inspire him to build an underwater world to wage his battle from =)

Yeah, that makes sense... I was trying to figure out why it only made decepticons to... I didn't understand that part either...

hmmm...seems mickey meg and icy night had similar responses to mine : )
while i haven't seen the movie, i have had LOOONG discussions about it with people that have, and have also been reading every bit of info about it for the past year so i felt somewhat capable of answering. after all conjecture is conjecture, and the answers others are giving you are also based on "cartoon" knowledge.

hmm, interesting...I think even people not versed in transformers would recognize optimus prime and megatron as THE transformers. I can't see him not being in the next movie, who would optimus fight with? although starscream often challenged megatron for leadership, so maybe they'll just have him take over (did he survive the film)? or like you said, a bot can be "resurrected" ,as mentioned above optimus has been several times. I really need to get my butt to the theater so i can offer actual feedback.

Great special effects -- especially Starscream. A solid 9 out of 10.

On a side note -- this is a family/8 year old + kids movie, right? I was a little surprised by the choice of trailers before the movie -- plenty of advertising for movies we'd never take our 8 year old to see, and I'm not a prude. Maybe I'm just assuming he's in the target audience though.
