    Unemployment is finally below 9%. I am willing to bet the Republicans are freaking out a little bit. I would also bet that they will be trying to take credit for it, even though they have not a done a single thing to improve the job situation.

    I did see comments some where that the drop is because of the extension of the Bush tax cuts.

    However, I would not be surprised to see it go back above 9%. Good employment news, tends to get people who had given up, and thus not counted, looking again. Since they would be "officially" unemployed again, the number would go up.

    I'm not sure I believe this number. I know a few ppl whose benefits ran out & are now out of luck. What about self-employed that can't collect or part-timeers that were let go? Does this count them in?

    That's just a few, everyone knows the number is close to 20 percent, you need to read more.

    The U3 index (the one reported in the media) is not based on the number of people collecting unemployment. The gov't polls peole and askes them of they are unemployed and actively looking for a job. If they are, then they are counte din the U3 index.
