Still, it sounds better than most of the stuff that's been marketed as Limited Time Magic. Now that they've announced their campaign for next year (Show Your Disney Side), are they even attempting the week-long events any more?

On the one hand, I'm glad that DCA is getting some unique seasonal entertainment (like the Holidays Around the World at Epcot); on the other hand, I really wish it was something that didn't pander quite so much. This just feels a little too slimy for my taste

I'm not interested in this stuff, but if people show up, then great. The beefed up holiday events have resulted in a Disneyland with nary an off-season these days, so something is working. I don't get it, but I've been out of the loop for a long time.

Personally, I love the opportunity to see the folk music and dancing from other cultures and I enjoy seeing the characters in the various costumes.

If you know the park's history, showcasing other cultures is nothing new. It goes back to the early days of the park. The early incarnation of the "Christmas Parade" for many years showcased other cultures. The park had celebrations of other cultures continuing on down to the 1970's and into the early 1980's. A couple of weeks ago I came across a Disneyland entertainment guide from the late 1970's that had listings for what sounded like a fairly extensive St. Patrick's Day celebration that included a special parade, special entertainment including performances by Dennis Day and other things. It was the first time I'd heard of this celebration. They were doing a "Festival Japan" in the early 1980's.
http://vintagedisneylandticket...-28.html I attended the 1983 one. I'm pretty sure they also did a similar Latin event during those years, but I didn't get to experience that one. There was kind of a lull for a few years when they tried other types of events like Circus Fantasy, Blast to the Past and State Fair among others. Then, during the "struggling years" of DCA they brought back a Latin festival and started doing other cultural celebrations. Of course, lately they've been doing several cultural celebrations. I think it's great that they do them.

I don't either ... if they're done right. I lived 12 years in Mexico City, and I never once heard anyone say "Viva Navidad"
