BTW, it is called a maxi-scooter, with a 650cc engine and it matches motorcycles in performance.

I agree. It has a 650 engine, but does not have a clutch and is a step-through, which, technically, makes it a scooter.

I've been riding since 1967 and, last year sold my motorcycle and got this. I also have a "real" scooter. A Honda 150 Elite that gets 67 mpg. Riding it gave me the idea that I should consider this big one.

I hope to take a trip with it soon. So far, my longest ride is from OC to San Diego. But I have toured many times over the years and have hopes of doing some more on this machine.

I avg about 47 mpg in town and 55-60 mpg highway, depending on conditions.

When I try to describe it to people who've never seen one, I just call it a Barbie Scooter, and then they get it.

I take it you've never been down a mountain on a road racing bicycle at 60 mph. It's a rush... and crazy when you think about the skinny and relatively fragile tires on such bikes.

My Elite is an '87, pearl white, but I prefer to think of it as a Ken scooter.

If you have further interest, here is a review of the '05 model, which is what I have.

Lol, actually he has, he had a well used and much loved Kuwahara racing bike in the 80's that was sold to become my engagement ring. :)

He's just jealous, fodd, because he hasn't been able to afford a bike (of the motorized variety!) since we got married. :-D

I use to race motorcycles in the early 80's just when the trend to small 16" rims was happening, and frankly they were squirlly beyond reason.
With the smaller wheel size the inertia becomes less and the bike tends to push in quicker but with more slide.
The effect basicly means you can flick in qucker, but the trade off is some serious stablity at faster speeds.
To a racer thats a fair trade, but on the street, I'm not that sure.
I have riden scooters, and they are fun, but too easy to get carried away. Hell I have seen more racers crash in the pits on there scooters , than I have on the track.
250 I could handle (arn't most 50cc) , but 650, hell I would have just bought a real motorcycle with real wheels.

But eh thats your call, just don't fall.

I guess now would be a bad time to tell Mrs Nurmi about the New Sportster that I just ordered eh?
