Western? Eastern?

Doobie asked whether all "Western" schools refer to themselves as "Western", rather than "Western Kentucky", etc. Well, I can't speak for other states, but I've grown up and lived my whole life in Washington, within a couple hours of WWU. We've always referred to WWU as "Western", but Eastern Washington U was also just "Eastern", CWU was always "Central"... Even the University of Washington was usually just referred to as "The U". It might be that us Washingtonians prefer to be efficient with our language. Or maybe lazy? Who knows? Maybe there's a sociology dissertation in there somewhere.

    So there's a girl in several of my classes whose from Seattle. One of her friends stopped by for the week to visit, because he was on spring break (at least that's what I gathered). Of course I wouldn't feel the need to bring this up, except that he was wearing a WWU shirt, and they were talking about what he had been up to at "Western". So I guess that makes it official, since that's what the real live students call it.
