Mr. X posted this same question in the Walt Disney World section. So, how about at The Disneyland Resort? For me, the Columbia Sailing Ship. I first visited Disneyland in 1969 and have probably been on the Columbia three times ever. Think it's cool - but never felt compelled to get onboard. Another one that I didn't ride for years until we started taking our daughter on it - Storybook Canal Boats.
Autopia. I drive to work everyday! Tarzan's Treehouse. Mad Tea Party. Pixie Hollow. Tom Sawyer Island.
When I'm alone, I also generally skip Tarzan. When I do trek through it, I spend all my time recreating Swiss Family Treehouse in my mind. I visualize the water system, the Mind Thy Head stairs, Fritz, Ernst and Francis' bunks (hey! why aren't there three of them?), and so forth. I also generally skip Columbia. Mark Twain is a more interesting ride to me and offers shade (without having to go below deck as on the Columbia). I also skip the Monorail now, for the most part. With only 1 or 2 trains operating (instead of 3, which was SOP for decades), it's sort of depressing.
I guess I skip a lot. Usually Tarzan, Columbia, Autopia, Pixie Hollow, Pirate Island (or whatever it is now), Gadget's Go Coaster (I'm scared of it, don't laugh at me), astro-orbitor, the shooting range at Frontierland, Dumbo. I don't do Lincoln very often. I'd see the Princess shows more often if the wait wasn't so long. I do go to a lot of attractions that I think other people skip. I think the Storybookland skippers are often much funnier than the Jungle Cruise skippers. I always stop into the Main Street Cinema for a bit, and I always ride the transport vehicles up and down Main Street.
Now, see, I think the Columbia might be THE most underrated, overlooked gem in all of DL. (Mostly because of the below decks, which one can explore during the loading procedure, and then go out on deck.) I much prefer it to the Twain. But to each his own. I haven't done the Mad Tea Party in ages. Nothing against it, and I don't get motion sickness or anything - just almost always skip it. Dumbo too, though I did do that one 6 or 7 years ago just because I had NEVER done the current version with the water and everything (I'd only done the pre-1983 version when it was where the Village Haus is now, and it was just over concrete).
Transport vehicles are so underrated. I try to never pass up the chance. Especially the top of the Omnibus.
I haven't been on the Skyway in years. But seriously, I rarely go inside Innoventions/Star Wars Expo or what-have-you. I have only been on the Columbia a few times, but it often isn't running the times I've been there. I didn't discover the Keelboats until right before they were removed, wished I'd tried them sooner. I enjoy the canoes but I always feel like I'm the only one actually rowing by the end. And that's too much of a life metaphor for me. ; )
I'd say the Royal Walk in the Fantasy Faire. No one I go with wants to get pictures with the princesses. We will get pictures with Chewbacca and Mickey but never Snow White. It would be different if Princess Leia was there. We never do Pixie Hallow either.
Oh wow! Sounds like us. We love to hitch a ride on Main Street and have become friends with a number of the drivers. I refuse to skip the Main Street Cinema and love, absolutely love the Canal Boats. The only thing Rod and I have skipped on every single trip to Disneyland is the shooting gallery. Funny thing, we decided we were gonna do it some years ago just so that we will have done everything. But when we found they had switched it to digital we passed.
I also haven't done the shooting gallery in forever. Do they charge for it now? How much? When I was a kid they had the FrL one and the "Big Game Shooting Gallery" in Adventureland as well. Both were a "C" ticket if you used a ticket, but only a quarter if you paid cash, which was less than a C ticket cost, so that was the way to go.
On my last visit, I rode the fire engine for the first time. The driver was great, had lots of cool trivia and facts about the history of not only the fire engine but the park in general. Plus, I got to ring the bell! : ) The vehicles add so much to Until then, I didn't realize that the famous last photo of Walt in the park was taken on the fire engine.
Oh yeah, the tickets. We will ride the Monorail for transportation but I have a deep resentment against it. On our very first trip in the early 60's (I was 10) my father insisted that we had to ride the Monorail. It was an E ticket!!! We had those booklets with only 2 or 3 E tickets. I was never so disappointed in my life and could not believe we had wasted a coveted E!!
In recent years it seems like I always end up missing California Screamin'. I typically don't make it to DCA until the afternoon/evening (saving it for later in the day for beverages!), and usually don't head straight to Paradise Pier. By the time we get back there, it seems like they've already shut it down for the night for World of Color. I made a concerted effort to ride it last trip, and it was as fun as always (though parts of it really needed a fresh coat of paint) I also tend to avoid Peter Pan, Dumbo, Main Street Vehicles, and the Twain and Columbia, mostly due to their limited hours and/or long waits. Whenever I do get on any of those, I always enjoy it, knowing that it's a somewhat rare experience for me Edit: I also avoid the bumper cars in DCA because they're terrible. The Chew Chew train is campy fun, but the rest of Flik's Fun Fair is forgettable-at-best
Agreed. I'll ride Heimlich, but that's the only ride I do in FFF... I do tend to skip Screamin' a lot as well. My wife doesn't care for it much either, so we usually only end up riding it if we're with someone who wants to... Same with ToT... I love the ride, but I don't need to ride it all the time. In DL, Autopia is definitely one I don't go on unless we're with young'uns... And I don't think I have been in the Treehouse since my niece was 5 (she is 20 now)... One of my goals is to always do something I haven't done before on each trip! You'd think with as many times as I have been, there'd be nothing left, but there is always something! Whether it be new or just something I hadn't got around to doing yet...
They do charge. I think it's 50 cents. Gideon tried it on a recent trip and really loved it. While I've done it, I will always skip the treehouse if possible because the height terrifies me.
If it's really only 50 cents, that may be the most untainted by inflation (especially "DL inflation") thing in the whole park!
Your right. The shooting gallery is fifty cents. I find it too easy to hit every target. I do like the skeleton that pops up when you hit the shovel.
I never do character meet & greets and I've never done the Shooting Galleries. I've also never been on the Astro Orbiter. Attractions I've done but purposely avoid tend to be centered around Fantasyland (Dumbo, Casey Jr., Tea Cups...). I do like the Carousel for some reason. Maybe because the wait is never more than 10 minutes.
