The Rocket Jets were kind of scary if you took your jet to their highest point. I'd like to see them put the SDL Jetpack where the Rocket Jets were. How cool would that be?
I've only done those twice. Once when I was a kid and once recently when I was doing every attraction.
We generally skip the Astro Orbiter unless we have grandchildren who insist. Except the grandson. That is my daughter taking a picture of me taking a picture of her.
I always feel like I'm the only one padding in the canoes. There is always that one kid that is paddling backwards or splashing everyone.
I have a fond memory of riding the canoes and my, then, 7 or 8 year old son was sitting behind a grown man who was paddling rather sloppily and splashing my son behind him unknowingly. My son kept yelling at him "Hey!!! They said no splashing!!!". Good times!
I like the canoes. Love it on those occasions when two are released close to each other and you can actually race. That's happened to me several times. I find the whole thing immersive and fun. Sometimes a little tiring near the end if not everyone in the canoe is pulling their weight. I wonder if they'll become more popular with the shorter river?
A friend of mine was on them and they overtook the other canoe and they and the CM got scolded. I guess technically they are not supposed to do that.
Things may have changed. I remember the official (i.e. Marty Sklar-penned) souvenir book once even touted the fact that sometimes races sprang up. Maybe the lawyers GOT to 'em, man.
Hmm. First of all, I like the new board software. The old board software was awful -- was there ANY browser in which it WASN'T awful? But back on-topic, the closest I've ever gotten to doing Autopia was once, as a child. Got halfway through the line, then changed my mind. My dad was with me, and was not thrilled that he'd waited through half the line for nothing. I can't recall whether I've done the West Coast ToT or not. The only thing I've done on Paradise Pier is Mania. Everything else is so run-of-the-mill. The only time I do Splash is if I'm there on a rainy day, so that I'd be dressed for it (i.e., rain jacket and sou'wester). I haven't done GRR yet, for the same reason. Haven't done the West Coast Buzz, out of memory of CircleVision, and what, with digital technology, CircleVision could have become (imagine being able to show ANY CircleVision film, with minimal setup/teardown for Timekeeper, and none whatsoever for the others). I've done the Finding Nemo version of the Subs once, maybe twice, but the cramped quarters are too hard on my back. Besides, I've ridden REAL submarines; the ones the Atlantis company runs are much more comfortable, with much larger viewing ports, and they REALLY GO DOWN. I've done Matterhorn exactly once. I've done Rocket Jets exactly once. I don't recall whether I've been on the latter in its "Astro Orbiter" incarnation or not. I have NOT done Treehouse since it was reconfigured as a Tarzan tie-in.
I don't like the Tarzan treehouse either. Last time I went, it was busy (of course), and a woman stayed right behind me talking on her cellphone the entire way. I finally just told her to go ahead of us, we just want to poke around and take our time. Probably the strangest thing she'd heard in awhile.
I'm the same age as Disneyland and I have never been on the canoes. I doubt I ever will, looks like work to me. I can't handle the Matterhorn anymore, too rough on my back. If someone begged me to go on it I would take a couple of advil and go. I like it, it just doesn't like me. Getting in and out of Astro Orbitor makes me feel like I'm in a sardine can so it's a no go. OK, that's the geezer report. So far, no interest in the "new" Princess area but now that our grandaughters are 1 and 2 that may change soon. We avoid Tarzan, Dumbo, Gadgets & Autopia unless we have a grandchild that NEEEEEEDS to go on it.
We tend to skip a lot of the dark rides in Fantasyland because my DH is tall, and he doesn't always fit nicely into the smaller vehicles.
When I am at DL Park I concentrate on the attractions that are not found at the MK or that are substantially better at DL (Pirates for instance). I usually spend more time at California Adventure because it has an atmosphere that is quite different from any of the Florida parks. Attractions I don't do in either Florida or CA include Autopia, Treehouse, Dumbo and the Carousel. At DL, I have never tried any of the ToonTown attractions... probably more because of their location than anything else. I just never seem to get to that section of the park.
RT, you should at least try Roger Rabbit. It's right on the other side of that little tunnel. If you're at iasw, it's closer to walk there than to the Matterhorn. And it's a really fun attraction the MK doesn't have, very much in the style of a classic FaL dark ride, but with, um, a twist.
