Oh wow! This looks incredible. I feel like the music is gonna be excellent. I'm excited about this one.
I had sort of been looking forward to this, but the teaser does nothing for me. I guess there's still a lot that we don't know yet, but I'm underwhelmed so far I assume the music has been in the works for a while, but I'm intrigued by Lin-Manuel Miranda's inclusion, since he certainly seems to be super popular at the moment; perhaps it will be like having Tim Allen voice Buzz Lightyear, a decision that was made early in the film's development prior to his career taking off. Disney also seems to be pushing Mark Mancina at the moment (he wrote the score for Rivers of Light at DAK...whenever they get around to opening that show), so I'm interested to see where that goes
Mark Mancina has been working with Disney for quite a while. He wrote the scores for Tarzan, Brother Bear and both Planes movies. He also did most of the orchestrations for The Lion King, as well as writing much of the incidental music for the Broadway production.
I didn't realize he'd done those. It sounds like he was brought in to do the "real" work on films where they had celebrities do some high-profile pop songs. The score from The Lion King is obviously great and well-known, but Brother Bear is secretly one of my favorites. The Transformation scene is absolutely incredible, and seems to have served as inspiration for a lot of the visuals and backstory for Rivers of Light, so I'm glad the music will also be in a similar vein
I, for one, am incredibly excited to hear what Lin Manuel Miranda has done for the movie. He is really a phenomenal songwriter, and I think it'll be interesting to see how the three people in charge of music work together. I have no doubt that this movie is gonna be great!
The story behind Disney's upcoming Moana has been richly inspired by both the history and folklore of the South Pacific. As well as being a kind of coming-of-age family adventure, in which a young girl embraces her seafaring destiny, it's also something of a 'Just So' explanation for the real Polynesian history of oceanic voyaging. Many of the story's more magical elements are yet to be revealed in the marketing - which is not so much of a surprise given that all we've had so far are a handful of convention appearances and a brief teaser trailer. Still, people have been introduced to Moana, our heroine, and Maui, the demigod who will be our travelling companion. We have met, however, Little Maui, one of Maui's tattoos, his Jiminy Cricket-style, ever-present conscience. The most exciting thing about Little Maui is that he has been animated in hand-drawn style by the wonderful Eric Goldberg, famous for his work on Aladdin's Genie. Expect Little Maui and the animated tattoos to be a real high-point and fan-favourite when the film is finished. Disney's Moana: more character details revealed
The tattoos remind me of the Muses in Hercules. They were a fun addition to that film, so hopefully it works well here too
A group of Kiwis has taken over the cast of Disney's upcoming film about its first Pacific princess, Moana. I'm curious how successful the movie will be. The start is not bad at all. Box Office: Disney’s ‘Moana’ Sets Sail With Record-Breaking $2.6 Million on Tuesday
